did any body go to the tt for DAWN last night? seem to be something weird going on right before they started calling numbers- a group of people who seemed to work there put in very large amounts of tickets for the reg. prizes , they had 1 inch thick stacks of tickets. anybody else notice?

You've got to be kidding if the Sisters of Christian Charity is the best tricky tray! This year's wouldn't even make the top ten in my book! How can a $10 mum be in the same category as tickets to Medeival Times or Papermill Playhouse?????
Anonymous said…
How were the prizes overall..was thinking of going but wasn't feeling well. I wonder who will be best tricky tray of 2005 if this was so bad?
Anonymous said…
eli golden @ the venitian in garfield was expensive and crowded but if was fantastic! they get my vote for best of 2005! did anyone else go?
Anonymous said…
its good to see so many listings for auctions north and west but what about central and south jersey? we like to go too! help us out!
Anonymous said…
TrickyTray.com is available to everyone. If central & South Jersey can't get their act together and post their events....that's their problem...not www.trickytray.com's
Anonymous said…
Tell us more about the baskets and prizes at ELI Golden!!!
Anonymous said…
i agree with you about the Sisters of Charity-there were some good things about it---
not overcrowded, calling was quick,a lot of door prizes-including t shirst and apples

but the prizes were not that great---the 'low' prizes at other events usually only cost $1 per sheet-not $5

a lot of high prizes seemed to belong on the low Table--I was at another TT where the mums were given out as door prizes

somehow, even though they were only selling 50/50s for $5-the prize at one point was something like $xx1-the math doesn't work.

i think you misunderstand about tricky trays in central & south jersey. in no way was i blaming tt.com! i think its a great site. i'm asking that people who know about them, list them so people can go. we'd like to see more organizations participate and list with tt.com! my note was not ment to be a complaint of any kind, even though it looks like thats the way you interpeted it. sorry if i confused you.
Mr. Tricky Tray said…
Sorry for the misunderstanding. I didn't take it as a complaint though either...just wanted to let you know that I wasn't being selective. Soon the whole world as well as central & South NJ, will know about TrickyTray.com..I'll be patient.

WOW! I've just recently been turned on to TrickyTray.com and truly had no idea about all of the "ins and outs" relative to TTs. I have been a silent observer of all of the blogs, but have decided to write in to let you know that I have been listening! I am the organizer of the St. Joseph Tricky Tray that will be held on Friday, 10/21/05 in Newton, NJ. So let's see if I've covered everything: We don't allow children, I will not be calling bent tickets, we do not charge admission, the values of our trays start at $100.00, we have free refreshments that keep our sugar-conscience clients in mind, our tickets are reasonably priced, we have lots of volunteers to help move things along, and I even have "security personnel" to ensure that everyone plays by the rules. Am I missing anything? Our doors open at 6:00 and I will begin calling at 8:00. It is our little school's biggest fundraiser and we hope you will all join. Some of our prizes include many beautiful regular trays, but also include special, super specials and super dupers ranging from Jets, Giants, Devils and Nets tickets, to house seats for Wicked, airline tickets to anywhere in the US, a restaurant special with enough gift certificates to eat out every week for a year, a "home office" complete with a computer, 2 iPOD Nanos, 2 iPOD shuffles, jewelry and many other very nice prizes. Everyone gets a goodie bag with various items. THANK YOU to all who support all of the Tricky Trays - they are very popular fundraisers! They require an immense amount of work and I appreciate all of the feedback (good and bad) so that each year can get better! Thanks for all of the comments. I have truly learned from all of you! Regards!
Anonymous said…
Hi Jen...definately post it on the Trickytray.com site. I have heard that many fundraisers have had sell outs and/or increased their money raised from event from listing it their.Best of luck on your event!

Can you please give us the prices for all tickets for the St Josephs in newton on 10/21, trying to decided which one to go to,sound like a great tt

So many tricky trays this day. There are 3 from 3 different Sacred Hearts!. I don't know which one to choose??? Where's everyone else going? Thanks

PS I like this bold Technique i just learned...just put a before and a to end and include the "<>"
Anonymous said…
oops..just put a b surrounded by <> to start and a /b surrounded by <> to end bold... This is the only way I could type it without code being hidden like last comment...hope it makes sense

I am new to this blogger, but I will tell you this. After reading all the comments on bent tickets and things people don't care for, my TT on Dec. 10 at the Dover/Rockaway Elks Lodge will be revised with "NO BENT TICKETS" will be pulled. I will also make sure that we post it at the front doors as well as a flyer at every table. This way people get the hint. On a personal note, I have never even thought about bending the tickets when I have gone to a TT, just toss them in as is. Anyway, there will be no bent tickets pulled and everyone will get a fair chance!!
Anonymous said…
Well it looks like a stop is finally being put to the "bent ticket" problem. I am sooo happy to know who will not be pulling bent tickets!! It makes my decision where to go an easy one, especially if there are more than 1 TT that night. I will definitely be going to St. Joseph's in Newton and to Dover/Rockaway Elks. Thanks for the heads up!

i have been trying to find out about a flyer/bulletin called auction alert. is anyone familiar with this and can they tell me how to get it? thanks!

For those of you deciding which tricky tray to go to on 10/21, I can tell you that I went to St. Joseph's (Newton) tricky tray and the prizes are outrageous! I don't remember the ticket costs but I can say that I didn't think the prices were expensive. The larger prizes were great too. I remember there being a sewing machine and large sized snow blower. Can't wait for tonight!
Anonymous said…
I called for the ticket prices at the St. Joseph TT in Newton tonight. The tickets are a little expensive, but I think the prizes have a far greater value than in a regular TT. The value matches the prices. Should be a really good TT.
Anonymous said…
Forget Auction Alert. My friend had won that at a tricky tray. Trickytray.com and your local newspaper is all that you need. What little that they have and there is a cost per year it is of little value.

I went to the Eli Golden TT, and for those of us who like to arrive early and get our tickets in, it was a nightmare. I arrived at 6pm and waited to get to one check in table with 3 women at it for almost 50 minutes. Everyone was grumbling. There were insufficient staff to help people gain entrance to the room, and then there were only 1 table for each of the ticket sales. It really slowed up the process. To confirm that there weren't enough people helping out the organizers, the young lady running the tt kept apologizing between calling numbers, saying that it was just she and her sister doing this. Our entire table won't be going to this one again. The Venetian's dinner and appetizer buffet, though, were wonderful.

So many Tricky Trays last night and The Blog is so quiet! Tell Us all about them. I was unable to make it to any of them.

We went to St. Joseph's in Newton last night. The prizes were very nice and the food was very nice and also free. They had nice fruit, cheese, pepperoni, olive trays etc. The only thing about this TT was they ran out of tickets right away and then had to start using different color tickets and making marks on tickets that were the same color as another level of prizes. If you are expecting 600 people to attend you should anticipate the number of tickets you need. If you know you have the event every year, then overbuy to avoid this. That was really the only thing that could use improvement. Overall this was a very good tricky tray!

We went to the Sacred Heart TT in Dover last night. Prizes were OK, not great. Super prize was a 42-inch TV. Cost of tickets was a bit high. $5/sheet for the regular prizes, $7/sheet for the medium prizes, and $5 a ticket for the TV. I had 2 complaints....first, the people were crammed in like sardines at the tables. And second, even tho the male caller was quick and efficient, I thought that there was no need for him to look into the white ticket bucket each time he reached in to pick one. Most callers will look away and reach in. I'd rate this one as a little better than average.

To St Joseph's in Newton: We liked the TT very much but next year how about having tables for people to sit at? Sitting in rows is hard for alot of people especially the elderly or people who wish to purchase many tickets. Alot of people, especially from North Jersey like to bring their own food (feasts) and friends and sit at tables where we can lay out the the food and tickets? Maybe if the place isnt big enough you could consider renting a hall? Other than that we really enjoyed ourselves. The people running it were very very friendly and nice and it was very well supervised. Thanks!

I am a tt regular, I went to the St. Josephs in newton last night THE BEST TT I HAVE VERY GONE TO!prizes were great, prices were great I will be telling the rest of the regulars I know so we can all go next year !

To Sacred Heart: Crumpled tickets are bent tickets. Anything that is not flat is a bent ticket. Glad you didn't pull any of them!

The Bonafides was good. Not a lot of baskets (only about 100 regulars), but the ticket prices were fair and the baskets were nice.

As part of the parent team running Newton High School class of 2008 TT on 18th November. What's all this about bent tickets? Do we need to post signs saying No Bent Tickets? Saw the comment regarding tables for people to sit at, was that held at NH school? Is this something lots of people want? Like to try and make this event one that people want to come back to next year!
Anonymous said…
To Newton HS parent: If you want to give everyone the same or fair chance at winning prizes it would be beneficial for you to not call bent tickets and post a sign saying so. That is entirely up to the way you want to run your tricky tray. As for myself my friends and all the friends I have met thru TT's, we are absolutely not going to any TT's that continue to call bent tickets. I also saw the comment about tables and yes tables are a good idea. People like to put their tickets and food out and it becomes hard to balance food and try to watch tickets when you are on a chair in a row. Since you are not going to call bent tickets I think we will be attending your TT.

Hellooooooooooooo...anyone out there??? I know people have been going to TT's, how about let us know how they have been?

I second that! And looks like a slew of them this Friday & Saturday. Which ones are you going to? Any recommendations for a tricky tray novice!

There will be a sign posted at the Unitarian Tricky Tray on Saturday, Nov 5th which states:

Went to a tricky tray on Friday in East Brunswick. The caller was a TV weather man and could have called a little faster. They also took 2 breaks the last one was 30 mins. Couldn't they find another caller? This is my 3rd time to this one and the prizes weren't as good. They didn't have enough for the 400 people that attended. Will not be going to any large ones any more. Also they usually had a goodies bag for everyone. Not this time. Must be a new committee.

I went to the Green Knoll Fire Dept tricky tray on Saturday the 5th. Out of all the tricky trays, chinese auctions & penny sales I have been to - THIS was the most fun I have had ever at one of these things. We did nothing but laugh and had a great time! Looking forward to next time with them!

Went to the tricky tray in Sparta on 11/4. I think it was for the Sussex County Vo-tech. The prizes and prices were very good. As for the ttchairperson. I usually go to t/t's at the gyms so I have more money to buy tickets. I go to the dinner tricky trays about once or twice a year. Good luck.

Went to the GWFD event in Bergenfield last week. What a nice event. Would definately head back there again next time. Over 200 prizes with different values. Well organized, lots of snacks and fun.

went to st barths also in e/b over 400 people and only 125 or 130 prizes, no goody bag no coffee or cake... every thing was $10.00 when you have 400 pepople you should have at least 200 prizes ??
won't be attending again

I recently went to the TT at Sussex fire house for their auxiliary and although i was not a big winner and many of the ppl there won 6-7 times i knew that it was fair since i was sitting up front and they were shaking the tix up really good. Also, I love when the caller says they will repeat the number 3 times and then the ticket will be dead. I just cant stand when ppl keep calling it and then the crowd becomes unsettled after the 8th calling of the number. i have been to a few by the sussex ladies aux. and they always have great prizes, reasonably priced and you dont come home at 11 pm because ppl werent paying attention to their tix lol!
Anonymous said…
To TT chairperson: I prefer school gym or hall also. If it is including one sheet of tickets a small charge like $5 admission is perfectly acceptable. The BIG thing is having tables and a gyn or large hall would be great!! Let us know when and where you are doing this!
Anonymous said…
Bent tickets is cheating - if prizes are awarded to a marked ticket, it questions the fairness of the entire fundraiser. Saw the runners verifying 2 obviously bent tickets and I won't be taking my money back there. Those winners sat at the next table to me and could easily have been family of the committee.
Anonymous said…
Saw bent tickets winning at the Mount Olive tt last week. This seems to be happening more often lately.
Anonymous said…
etiquette?

Is there a rule of etiquette about separating your tickets (the 25 ticket mats) prior to going to the tables. A lot of people go around the tables ripping one ticket at a time. This often holds up other people and creates crowding. I am disabled and it is difficult for me to drop my tickets when this happens.

I would also appreciate if people would list if their events are wheelchair accessible (including bathrooms please!)
Anonymous said…
parking suggestion:

I went to the sisters of charity TT-parking was scattered all over the property---they did a great job directing people to spaces.

If you have a set up like this i would suggest reserving some spaces near the door for people with disabilities-even if it means printing a wheelchair symbol and tapping on a post--it won't be legally enforceable-but most people that go to TT are considerate
Anonymous said…
Reagrding bent tickets: As long as people keep reporting where they see the bent tickets then we can decide not to attend the event next year. These organizations will make money this year but they will definitely have poor attendance next year. The only ones attending will be the ticket benders. Lets face it, we have choices and I think we have all decided to be victimized only one time at any organization, after that we will not be attending ANY fundraiser that organization holds.

anyone ever been to a TT that had prizes that looked like they came from a rumage sale-no store tags/boxes on many items-some items dusty or with discolored packaging?

That's the worst! When I come across those, they're off my list for next year. And also, the TTs that have really low end prizes. I was at one where the entry level prizes were mostly less than $10. The tickets were cheap, but the prizes were such junk! The specials (which for the most part were low end regulars at the good TTs) were expensive (3 tickets for $5). I like baskets between $25 and $50+ with sheets going for 3 - 5 dollars. It's best when the organizers can put this info in their announcements. The school based TTs seem to be pretty good - since the parents contribute the baskets, they all like to out-do each other!

Went to the Corpus Christi one that was listed on this site. I've been going there for many years. Nice baskets. New product. No bent tickets. Reasonable ticket prices. I honestly can say that they did a great job. And most of all we had fun! Keep up the good work ladies. Looking forward to their tricky tray in the Spring.
Any up coming ones in Central Jersey? It seems like there are a lot up North.

it would also be nice if people listed that there are no tables-only chairs! It's difficult to get up and stretch your legs when everythung is on you lap!
Anonymous said…
Can any one recommend a GOOD TT that is not crowded-about 200 people or less-I used to go to one that attracted hundreds-possibly 600-it is so hard to win
Anonymous said…
it would be nice if hosts listed if their event allowed smoking (is it legal any more-say in a catholic school?) since even with non smoking sections-the smoke fills the hall and some people cannot be in a smoke filled room
Anonymous said…
Many TT have reserved tables for family and friends--the people work hard and deserve some consideration-but I often spend more than those who have tables reserved--and have ended up not having a seat------1 tt marked the number of seats reserved-others just reserve the whole table even if they are only using 3/4 or 1/2
There needs to be a better system to mark what seats are available and there should always be an UNRESERVED section. Walking around a hall and seeing RESERVED on every table makes me feel that the host is ungrateful for my participation!
Anonymous said…
AT OUR TT WE ADVERTISED IF YOU BUY 6 TICKETS WE WILL RESERVE A TABLE. THERE ARE LARGE GROUPS OF PEOPLE WHO COME IN A GROUP.. JUST SEE THE COMMITTEE PERSON AND SHE WILL SEAT YOU...

i also went to the trickt tray at corpus christi first time. awesome never saw one like that before. i think they had 300 baskets. only $7 admission tray of deserets on every table. some of their prizes were over $500.. can't wait to next year. did someone say they have a spring one ??

No wonder they sell out! How much were the sheets of tickets for the regular prizes and what would you say they were worth? Sounds like one to put on my list!

I've tried asking a working where there were seats available at a couple TT-and they couldn't help me.

Thanks for the suggestion on getting high end products. Unfortunately we are not that connected with anyone who would be able to give us a hand with such items, so that is why I asked. I always see tt that have trips to different places, computers, etc...unfortunately we are a small organization whom is just realy trying to keep our charitable endeavors afloat. Unable to purchase and write off at this time.

Thanks again for your suggestion.

You can actually ask the big stores for a donation. They do donate and you don't have to know someone personally. You'd be surprised how generous some smaller merchants can be. I know this for a fact because I've gotten well over 50 donations this spring for my daughter's school.
