went to wallkill valley booster's tricky tray and I must say I was disappointed. The trays were just ok...WAYYYYYYYy too many porcelain dolls-looked like some place selling them was going out of business or something. Also, this is a HIGH SCHOOL-why did we have so many kiddie trays for kids of 4-10 yrs old? OK i could deal with all that but WHY oh WHY did we have to have 2 different colored sheets. please everyone out there doing tricky trays please have only ONE color per level. Its so obnoxious when you have two different colors and mostly only one color is being called and you have mostly the other color. Also a word of advice-if you are going to have pre-sale tickets why not advertise them??? I would have bought the pre-sale tix in a heartbeat if I had known they were available...pretty good specials and super specials and prices were good but the different colored tickets and mostly children trays ruined it for me. A lot of people I went with complained about the above things and were disappointed at these little things. (PS if you ARE going to get two different colored tix, please don;t use tickets that had a previous tricky tray's name on it an everything. it seems so-unprofessional)

Undersand what you are saying about number of tickets for the same tiers, but sometime when people donate baskets, they donate what they want and sometimes not what you really need - most places are happy with donations and hate to hurt people's feelings.

Hello Everyone,

With the return of Tricky Tray Season, September was 3rd for most traffic this year..just behind March & April. The website in Sept ..had 3146 individual visitors with an average of 2.12 visits per person!

Thanks for everyone's patience last week including posters and visitors with the updating of site over the past week.I had a work related project and deadline that had me doing 2 stints of 48hrs straight. Plus the postings were coming in by the droves. I must have added at least 20 tricky trays in last few days.

But site is now up-to-date.

Most of all..don't forget to support the site by buying at affiliate banners..or buying some t-shirts..sweat shirts.

Organizers..since there is no fee to post..buy a few various shirts and make it a basket at your event.

Have Fun..I hope to get to a few tricky trays to end the year myself.

I tell you I rather have a day old cookie, than some of those "home baked".

Let me tell you a short story.

One of the family that did baking for our school has a house full of pets, and when they brought in there goods we did not realize this, they went out and peple kept on finding cat hair in the cookies.

Another case, food alergy - how about sitting at a tricky tray to someone choking... this happened in a tricky tray in succasunna a few years back.

Give me snacks that are pre-wrapped - I prefer those, or professionally baked - in clean kitchen.

This is the major reason why I bring my own.

Went to the Christ the Savior, Denville event this week-end, and while I like innovation, it was kind of peculiar when they said we will sit in the church's pews for the calling of the numbers. Really, the event was very nice, but getting use to calling out when my numbers were called was a stretch. Seemed odd to the Catholic in me. Note to TT organizers. I really like to sit at a table...simple as that. I know that in certain cases there are room size limitations, but this is the third one I've gone to (that I found on TT.com) that used row seating. If it's not too burdensome, kindly let us know if table seating will NOT be available. Lots of us are older, and lower back ache is not what I want to think about when I'm concentrating on my numbers. Thank you!

"Kelly's Dream" held their 1st tricky-tray event in Somerville on Sunday, Sept. 30th. Some people that came said they saw it on the trickey-tray site. Was wondering if we can have any feedback.

The $15 entrance fee kept me away when there was nothing else going on. I do understand entrance fees to get into events, but would it of hurt you to give folks a single sheet of tickets to start them off? You have to assume that anyone coming from seeing your event listed here, never knew Kelly nor knew what her dream was. While you are personally attached to this cause, you are approaching people willing to support various causes via participating in the raffles. If $15 would of given a starter sheet, more people would of come in the door to check out how many trays were available and probably bought additional tickets. Chances are they would of purchased something from the vendors also. My reluctance was also driven by suspecting there were very few baskets being raffled. It's typical raffles of trays at a shopping or craft fare is not very good. I'd love it if you focused and simply held a tricky tray. That would get my attention.

I went to the Deborah TT in Stanhope last Friday. What a disappointment.... the chairs were so close together in rows so close you were almost sitting on the next persons lap. No place to put the baskets won..

It started off the Host forgot the microphone and they had to holler out the numbres, You think after discovering you didn't have the mike you would send someone to get it.

Oh yes i won a basket. WHen i got it home i took the cellophane off it and all i could smell was cigarettes , The scent of cigarettes were on the used stuffed animals. I could go on and on. The winners of most of the baskets seemed to be kin to the host and the 50-50 was won by the tricky tray queen who sold the lottery apron. What a surprise. I will not go next year.

It a disgrace for the name of THe deborah hospital.

too bad you didn't come into the kelly tricky-tray, the organization had a hugh poster describing what the organization was and what they have done so far. According to my program book there were 186 baskets. Everyone had a good time, our 1st time there, we will go back. We spent our money on the basket tickets and did not shop the vendors.
Anonymous said…
No, I didn't go into the Kelley tt because it was quite a distance for me. The info that was availabe in papers indicated it was primarily a vendor event and the phone calls I made could not find specific details on the trays. Kudos to you for making the trip and finding a 186 basket event. If they would like a more profitable tt then more detailed info should be advertised.

I was told Stanhope Deborah only had chairs for 120 and closed the doors when they sold out. That's a small crowd for a tt but I agree it's terrible to be stuffed into a room. most of the attendees were relatives or friends of members that chapter so the odds were high that a tray winner would be kin to someone in the group. Not sure who you thought the 'host' was. The lady who was supposed to run it ended up moving out of the state and left it to the committee to pick up the pieces and get it done.
The one you referred to as tt-queen probably had more money spent on 50/50 tickets then you spent for everything. It's a wonder she doesn't win more 50/50's the way she spends money at events.

just wondering how the START II tricky tray on Oct 4th at the Cotllion was? Heard they had over 400 people.

We went to the Hopatcong high school tt this past Friday. Good prizes and good prices. NO presale! :-) Yippee! The refreshments were also yummy and plenty of them.

My only complaint is they used two different color tickets for the regular trays. Please people stick to one color. No one likes to be out of it before they even hear the number!

Went to the Boy Scout TT at St. John the Apostle's in Clark on Friday night. Nice enough event...organizers were very helpful, and gifts were ok. Tickets on bigger gifts were a little pricey. The callers were very efficient and clear.
Anonymous said…
The Foster Parent tt was a superb event. They tried to hold down the number of toy/child related baskets but didn't totally succeed. Those who attended who didn't have children or grandchildren competed for what was left. Considering that attendance was down there were prizes being won by all. Prices for tickets were ok and they did have interesting and top quality prizes that weren't typical tt offerings. I'd suggest less toy/kid trays next year. Then again kids are everything to Foster parents so maybe you could counter that by advertising your event as being very heavy with those gifts. Everyone with kids/grandkids were thrilled with what you were offering as prizes.
Anonymous said…
Went to Hunterdon Dev Center TT on Sept. 30. It was outstanding, lots of space to see baskets, prizes were awsome. Run professionally, must go to next year.
Anonymous said…
what kind of "top quality prizes that weren't typical tt offerings" did the Foster Parents have.

Went to the Boys Scouts TT in Clark on last Friday. Middle/cheap table items were scarce and ok. Some looked really old...especially the slow cooker. Someone clearly retrieved that from the back of their storage closet. Mood was kind of quiet and as exciting as watching paint dry. I won about 9 things... couple of coveted items from other tables... overall it was decent.

I have attended this tt in the past and for the life of me I can't understand why they only sell sheet tickets in one location. The line wraps around. Hey Boy Scout people... it's ok to have sellers on the floor. They have aprons, let them sell the single sheeets in random locations. It will allow the selling to go a lot faster and you will probably sell more.

My ONLY complaint is that the kitchen/cafeteria workers wear GLOVES when serving food. The guy selling the hot dogs was leaning over the counter when I arrived, then when I when I ordered two hot dogs, he reached into the bag with his bare hands, opened the roll with his bare hands, carried the roll when he went to find something to put the hot dog roll on, then opened the roll again when he was over the hot dog pot. TOO much touching of the food!!!

Overall, the auction was decent, but next year, please start your solicitation of middle table prizes a little earlier. They were kind of skimpy, but overall, the auction worked.

Keep up the good work!

Correction on comment to tt in Clark.. the kitchen worker did NOT wear gloves. PLEASE WEAR GLOVES FROM NOW ON. TOO MUCH TOUCHING OF FOOD WITH BARE HANDS!

What's up for this weekend? Any recommendations?

Speaking of the Boy Scout TT in Clark our problem with that one was how high the cost of just 3 to 4 tickets for the tables that had at least 20 to 30 prizes on them. I heard so many people stating that they had to see what was on the table 1st before purchasing tickets because on 1 table you got 4 tickets for $6.00 for at least 20+ selections and the quality of prizes did not warrant the cost of the tickets. The people also had a problem with the tickets not being shaken up but just poured into a bowl and the caller just reaching in swirling around a little and picking a ticket....ergo the first tickets in (on the bottom of cup) were the tickets that ended up on top of the bowl. So many people were dissappointed in the prizes at such an expensive cost. Personally I have been to other TT with very high end prizes at half the cost of the boys scouts tt. I heard many people stating that unless the cost goes down next year or unless the prizes warrant the high cost of so very few tickets, they would not be attending this tt again.
Anonymous said…
I totally agree with the blogger on last weeks Boy Scout 30 tricky tray. I always go to tricky trays with a budget and got broke before I could get around the hall, it was too expensive and the prizes were okay but not worth the cost. Before I attend this one again, I am going to have to call the number on trickytray.com to find out the prices of each level.
Anonymous said…
Well I went to the Boys Scout in Clark and something else besides the crazy ticket prices was for hotdogs they only had mustard. No Ketchup. They were very unprepared. For what we paid it should have been better.

Now let me tell you about one of the worst tricky trays. I went tonight to St. George Greek Orthodox Church. The cost of the small table was fine. Something was missing..... Anyone want to take a guess?????????? PRIZES!!!! It was 12-14 tables put together and I thought I was hiking to each prize. They were so far apart! When you spread them out like that it does not make it look like you have more prizes people. There were 350 people and not enough stuff. It really irks me when people say it was for a good cause blah blah blah. If you are putting it on tt.com your not inviting us because we are your family and friends and we go to your church or sponsor your cause. Let's get right down to it you want our money we want your prizes. With 350 people and at 7 bucks a head just to get in you could have went to Wal-Mart and bought prizes if your parish did not donate enough items. All the higher levels were all the same price but different colors. So 3 tickets for 5 bucks. At one table prizes were valued about 40 bucks then one table had a coach and another a wii. Someone needs to teach them how to coordinate prize value and tickets.THERE IS NO NEED TO BE CHEAP!!!
Anonymous said…
I agree about the Boy Scout one in Clark. Very disappointing again. Next year I won't be so desperate to go to one. Not enough quality prizes. Too many people for the amount of prizes.
Anonymous said…
I attended the tricky tray at Bernards High School last night.

First, the positives.
1) the prizes were very nice
2) the prices of the tickets were fair
3) there were tables to sit at
4) they had a lot of snacks

Now, the issues.
1) they ran out of the sheets of tickets and substituted the larger "raffle" tickets. And, no surprise, a lot of those larger tickets were pulled. Very unfair!
2) traffic flow when dropping tickets was awful
3) it was very difficult to hear for those in the back (who, for the most part were trickytray.com people unafilliated with the school)

Would I go again? Not sure. Yes, I came home a winner, but it was so disorganized!

We went to the Camp Auxillium Tricky Tray on Friday. EXCELLENT!

The trays were awesome, all 4 levels were priced right. Regulars were $4.00 a sheet and some of these trays were worth $75 or more. The largest prizes (Disney tickets, Flat screen TV) were only $3 a ticket.

PLEASE Tricky Tray organizers take advice from this one. They know how to run one (no presale, no overpriced tickets) I wish I would have one more than one tray but I can't complain, this Tricky Tray is one of the best and I will be there next year!

Also have to mention that they charged for nothing but the tickets. Coffee/Tea, Lemonade, veggies, cheese, crackers, cookies, brownies were all free. This is a great one, don't miss it next year!

Tricky Tray Lady
Anonymous said…
Even Camp Auxillium could benefit from presale of tickets. Usually there is cost savings, but I appreciate one less line to stand in.
Anonymous said…
I disagree. I was there and the line moved quickly. Presale usually means a better deal but it also means the people who don't get presale tickets get a raw deal. I'd rather wait a few minutes longer than be over charged just because I bought the night of.

Went to Best Friend Dog and Animal Adoption. $40 entrance fee. No tickets with that just a door prize ticket. Dinner was to be an entree, salad, fruit cup dessert, coffee. There was no fruit cup and the soda was stopped right after dinner. THIS EVENT WAS 6 HOURS LONG WITH NOTHING TO DRINK EXCEPT DURING DINNER!! The food was good but sparse. everyone at our table wasnt full after dinner and by the time the thing was over everyone was starving. 6 Hours is way too long for a tricky tray. People were getting up and leaving. There was alot of confusion with misplacing prizes then finding them, calling numbers and handing out pizes and then trying to take them back from people. I saw alot of bent tickets in the cups. The prizes were nice but I dont think we will attend this one next time.

Went to the tricky tray Saturday in North Plainfield at Saint Joseph's Church. Very nice prizes and won lots of great items but..... If you say your going to start at 7:45 starting at 8:15 doesn't cut it. I also know the father was excited but going home with a migraine wasn't fun. There really was no need to shout like that. Then all the breaks so you could sell more tickets just not a good thing. Then when you braked for the 10 minutes it was almost a half hour. There was no food or much of anything. The extra sheets were a bit high but not anything to cry about. I might have also had a adult in the kitchen with the kids selling the soda. They were jumping on the counters, shouting, and just plain horsing around. Would I go back yes but you need to make some adjustments in the next one you have. :)

I also went to the best friend dog adoption. I took my wife and mother in law (83). I totally agree witht he above poster, it was too long. My mother in law cant sit on a chair for 6 hours. There was hardly any food and absolutely no drinks. They served soda wine and beer during dinner and after that you were out of luck. The people at my table were also hungry. The prizes were nice, but not 6 hours worth of nice. They had a silent auction also, no one was really interested in that. That should be a whole separate event. People at TT's dont want a silent auction. The second prize was given to a woman and than they tried to get it back from her. They said her number wasnt called when the runner had the number picked in her hand with the number 2 written on it by the caller. I was sitting right next to the caller so I could hear her telling the woman she was wrong and had to give the prize back. They told the woman they would "have to find something else to give you". The woman demanded the prize she had won and finally the caller asked (her friend???the woman they claimed had won) Barbara, would you mind if we gave you something else? What in the world was this all about?? There was alot of "losing prizes" and then finding them. This whole thing seemed pretty shaky to me. I also will not be going to this one next time. It may be for a good cause but it seemed crooked as a snake. And to all the people out there who think people go to support the cause, I have news for you, when we see it on TT.com we are going for the prizes. If we want to support a cause we can sit at home and write a check and mail it.

A lot of people attending tt events are older rather than younger and one less line to stand in is greatly appreciated. I've made special trips to pick up the tickets even at the same price just for that reason. Any cost break for committing my money ahead of time is appreciated. Not everyone turns that benefit around to being 'overpriced tickets' for those who bought at the door. I dislike events that quietly presale at reduced prices only to their inside group.
Anonymous said…
I like the events that allow people who buy admission ticket to go in earlier, to beat the crowd.

And I'm one that has trouble standing or sitting for long time.

Keep the number of prizes reasonable about 200, if you need to combine some and make them bigger. Too many will make the night last to long... I'm not a spring chicken.

Oh and door prizes ... are nice, but don't have too many of them that are junk. Less and better quality is better.
Anonymous said…
I think how the TT caller handles the numbers can really make the night fly by or seem like an eternity. Saturday nite I went to the Mine Hill Canfield Avenue TT, and they easily had 400 gifts. The caller began at 7:30pm and ended before 10pm. She was clear, organized, and focused. No one felt rushed. I was impressed that it moved along so quickly. The nice thing was that the level of anticipation stayed very high throughout the night, because we had chances to win many gifts.

Went to the Dystonia Foundation tricky tray last night and had a wonderful time! The prizes were nice although I had thought that the Super and Grand prizes were better in the years past. It was very smoothly run and organized and it turned out to be a nice evening out (oh and I won twice including a Grand prize). The only negatives were that caller was REAL fast, which normally is good, but while your trying to eat, watch your tickets and look at the program...it got tough. The other negative was the obnoxiously loud people we were sitting by who continued to scream "shake em up" about 50 times and then talked through the Foundation video at the beginning.
Great job...looking forward to next year!

I attended the Sacred Heart in Rockaway TT tonight and I must say I was a little disappointed. The prizes were nice, but not up to the standard I had been accustomed to over the past 4 years I have been attending this one. Something was different. They had the same number of people as in previous years, but the lines moved so slowly that the calling didn't begin until almost an HOUR later than scheduled. Organizers tried to move the lines along, but it wasn't easy. I felt really bad for them because I know how hard they work on this event. Some of the differences from previous years that may have contributed to the confusion were the level 2 prizes were right next to the level 1 prizes instead of in the outer room where they usually were set up. Also, hanging all the bags on the table's edge was confusing. I was looking at prize number 16 on the table and the bag for that prize was three feet away in front of prize number 22. Also, people had waited so long in line to look at the prizes that they were getting nasty. A fight almost broke out between some women who were moving as fast as they could and some obnoxious witch behind her. For a Catholic group, there were some words being said that I've never heard in church before. I also think there were too many people. I think they over-loaded the room capacity. All in all, the one TT I look forward to each year was a total disappointment. I don't think I will ever attend this one again.

I would like to have some feedback on the PASS(Parsippany Animal Supporters Society) Tricky Tray that took place last night October 19. We sell out every year and therefore assume people enjoy our event, but always are looking for ways to improve for next year. Any thoughts and suggestions from our attendees would be much appreciated.

I attended the Jefferson Class of 2008 TT last night. The prizes were very nice. Regular ticket prizes were good. Specials were not. Too many specials at too high of a price. Some could even been considered regular trays.

The shaking of the tickets was annoying in the beginning (picking out of a brown lunch bag) but they quickly got something else to put them in that was bigger.

Top prizes were really nice. Funny most of them went to the teacher's table.

Overall, it was good. We didn't win anything but had a good time since the prizes were nice.

Refreshments were good and free!

Jefferson tt certainly had a few issues. They ran out of large prize tickets and decided that regular tickets (typical small size) would be ok. No way can you have a random draw when tickets are such different sizes. In their defense, they opted to do this because a dozen people were in their face demanding to be sold tickets to get into the larger prize draw. They clearly stated they didn't care that the ticket was smaller. Unfortunately sponsor events are often the most naive in the room. they only are involved with the one event and have no experience to fall back on when decisions need to be made.

They sold a lot of tickets to school employees during the day and there were a couple tables minding the tickets of many who didn't attend. They won a lot more than the average table. What bothered me was those times when the announcer was clearly reading the name of the winner off the back of the winning ticket. The prize was claimed by the 'teachers' table and there were cheers all around. Strange how the one announcer called out a lot more of those type winners. Any modification to a ticket makes it a marked ticket and shouldn't be allowed to win. Don't you think you could feel for a ticket with writing on the back if you wanted to? tsk tsk Prizes were ok and I liked that large array of low level big prizes. Just wish the winning had been more randomly dispersed.

I have noticed in the past few years more and more events on the same day. Last night I must have counted at least 6 if not more in the same local area.

**Jefferson,Rockaway,Denville, Dover, Another In Rockaway, Parsippany.**

I was one of a few crazy people who went out in that nasty rain, my girlfriends decided they were not going. ~~ Bad weather is the best time to go to tricky tray, less people show up and more chances to win ~~

Went to St James Church TT at Budd Lake Fire House Last night. They had it organized pretty good. The caller talked too much for my taste, but we got out ok. Thought some of the reg trays light on value and too many M&M trays. I would have liked a few kids gifts being that I am winning for Christmas presents. Next year I hope they have more level 2&3 prizes. They did give out for free their cookbooks that we cute, and it did run pretty smooth.

We went to Tenafly Elks TT. Another unfortunate mistake on our part. The prizes were very lovely and the prices were good. What wasnt good was the way it was run. When the doors opened, all the tables had reserved on them. When we asked where we were to sit they said we only sold 120 tickets so it is impossible for all the tables to be reserved. When they looked around they were themselves amazed by the signs, as if it were the first time they were entering the room along with us. They finally got that straightened out and it was time to call the numbers. The woman who was calling was apparently using this evening as her personal soiree. She was delighted to call to her friends, laugh and make inside jokes before during and after calling each and every number. She called out to people in the bar. When she would pull a number out with her friends name written on it she would just shout out something like "Colleen you won!!!" Never even saying the number. Between each of the colors of tickets she would call for a short 5 minute brake which turned into either her eating dinner or disappearing somewhere for half an hour. The last drawing was for the Grand prizes and she wanted to break before doing them. When people started to shout no, she wanted to know what was wrong with everyone since it was only 11:30 and it was still early. This thing began at 6 and ended close to midnight. Never again for us!

I went to the Bonafides tricky tray. They advertised "hundreds of prizes". Well, there were 114 regulars (up to $50 value) and about 30 "elite" ($50+). Ticket prices were reasonable and the prizes were nice, but this wasn't a high end event. The caller was very clear and the evening moved along quickly. The layout of the calling was not the best - the caller couldn't see the entire room. I'll probably attend again - I came home a winner and kids are allowed (although there weren't many kids prizes).

Went to St James TT at the Budd Lake Firehouse. It was well run and the prizes were good (wish I had won more). Thanks for selling tickets in advance and thanks for the cookbook. The higher tier prizes were unique and really great. The folks running the event were friendly and cordial. I'm looking forward to attending the next one.

To all Tricky Trayers..

I was left a voice mail message on last week concerning the START of the sale of tickets for the TT being held on November 9th and that tickets were going on sale on today - October 22nd. When I called to get a table of 10 or even a table of 2.. I was told the tickets were sold out.

I mean were the telephone lines blowing up like a Jerry Lewis telethon? I mean the day just started really, and they are sold out on the very day tickets went on sale. I am sure the auction is good, but I really think something is pulling a fast one. I called the woman as I was "INSTRUCTED" to do on today, although I wanted to call her right back when she left me the message, and she said, sorry we are all sold out. I then told her that YOU called me and told me when to call you. However, she was more than willing to put me on their "WAITING" list. Well with all the auctions happening during this season, I don't go on waiting lists. I must spend a minimum of $200-$300 and every auction I attend, and my attending the auction with 10 of my friends, also spending the same amount if not more is definitely their loss. I declined be put on a "WAITING" list and will not attend the Middlesex auction ever - no matter how many "votes" they get.

The next time they tell tricky trayers when to start purchasing tickets, stand by your word. Not offer a waiting list. What do they expect? Ten people to turn in tickets and say they are not coming. Bunch of garbage.

I also called on today as I was instructed to do and was told they were sold out.

Why advertise an auction on Tricky Tray.com when you are not going to let anyone on the site purchase tickets.

If it is a PRIVATE tricky tray, don't post it here.

We don't like waiting lists. Far too much competition to get cute.

Be careful, perhaps next year you will have an empty room with a whole bunch of prizes and empty seats.

Don't get cute.

To All Tricky Trayers:
WOULD LIKE YOUR COMMENTS AND OPINIONS!!!!
Recently went to a tricky tray and witnessed a woman (not the first time I might add) who purchased tickets for the super baskets and did not put them in until all the lower baskets were called and right before they were ready to call the super baskets, she went over to them and placed handfuls and picked up the buckets and kept shaking, then looking in and shaking again. Then threw some more in! Everyone watched this woman, she does it at every one that I have seen her at. The kicker is " She kept winning all the best prizes" DVD, Flat screen TV, Gameboy, Etc. But the people running these tricky trays don't say anything. I feel this is almost the same as bent tickets.
What are your feelings on this???
It's weird because, people I didn't even know at the table knew of this woman and what she does to win. The feeling at our table of 20 was that it should not be allowed and an announcement should be made about this matter, the same way they do about bent tickets.

I went to Most Holy Rosary this weeekend and it was so nice. the prizes were nice, the prices were nice and the caller just called them right along. Although it lasted almost 5 hours it went along smoothly and there was no nonsense going on. She called the numbers, she didnt pass remarks and it was just great, the way a TT should be run. We will definitely be attending this one next year and will also attend anything else run by them.

I see that Our Lady of Mt. Virgin school does not post that it is all sold out even tho it is. Im glad the above poster brought it to my attention that it was sold out before anyone can buy a ticket. You know what that means? If it starts out not on the up and up things can only get worse. I will be putting this place on the right side of my list, the side where I list the ones NEVER to attend if it were the last TT on Earth. Thanks for the heads up!

I have no problem with tricky trays that sell to "insiders" first. But to put a "hold the date" on the trickytray.com website and then never have any tickets available to the public is bad business!

So, now where should we go on November 9?

Many years back I saw a women wait until the end to put tickets in the baskets.

Later this same lady sat next to me -- I asked why she waited. I was told that she only put tickets on baskets that have less ticket in the bags. Something about having a greater chance to win.
Anonymous said…
I do have one comment about the person holding her special tickets until all of the lower tier baskets are called and then depositing them into the bags. I have also witnessed this behavior. I guess she can put her tickets in the bags whenever she feels like it as long as it is allowed by the organization. HOWEVER, she should not be allowed to put her hands in the bags or shake the bags repeatedly. Wouldn't that be against the gaming laws? I know it makes me cringe when I see it.

Re: Our Lady of Mount Virgin

There posting here says "Save the Date" - well my reliable sources (straight from the horses mouth) says.. "SAVE YOUR MONEY TOO"

They are totallly sold out and NEVER advertised any contact number. I started calling them in AUGUST 2007, speaking to the rectory and school. They gave me the name of the organizer and said that they were no where near ready to sell tickets then. I left my number with the woman and she in turn gave it to the "committee". I called back again in September twice and said, they still have my number and will call me when they know how much tickets are going to be. I then called back the end of September and into October and said, they still have my number and will call me when they are ready.

I then received a call via my answering machine on last week and said, tickets go on sale on October 22 and the minimum is 4 tickets per person. I then said to myself, great we can finally get this over with.

When I diligently called on October 22nd, the woman blatantly told me that "between the school" and whatever excuse she gave me.. "we are completely sold out."

She then said, "I can put you on the waiting list." I then said to her, YOU CALLED ME. How can you tell me the tickets are all sold out and you told me when to call? She then was hesitant and then said, "well I can put you on the waiting list."

Dear Tricky Trayers.. what the heck is a waiting list to a true tricky trayer? WE DON'T DO WAITING LISTS. No one cancels. If anything, people are still trying to get in.

OUR LADY OF MOUNT VIRGIN.. you may have been voted best tricky tray of 2006, but you definitely won't have a lot of votes in 2007.

If you wanted to have a PRIVATE TRICKY TRAY then don't advertise on this site. There are far more other tricky trays going on besides yours. Am I annoyed, (to put it mildly)? Yes I am. I called you when you committee wasn't even in formation and then you had the gall to tell me tickets were sold out when I have been calling you for four months throughout all the months so I wouldn't miss the ticket sale. This is by far BAD business and I am putting the word out here.

Take your auction off this site forever if it is not open to the public.

There is ANOTHER tricky tray CONVENIENTLY located on November 9th:

St. Cecelia's in Iselin. I went last year and the prices were fantastic. Nice crowd - good callers.

I ask all Tricky Trayers to patronize St. Cecelia's because they appear to be one of the organizers with commons sense and decency in running an auction on this day. No offense to any other auctions on the 9th, but Our Lady of Mount Virgin gets TWO THUMBS WAY DOWN.

You guys have a lot of nerve. Too big for your britches. You are trying to raise money...and we won't forget your antics on next year.

RESPONSE:

The lady is a cheat. Period, exclamation point and etc. etc.

She knows clearly well what she is doing. She is putting her tickets in last so they can be first when the bag is flipped over. She then increases her chances by putting a hand full of tickets in.

Most of the times the HIGH end tables are very high priced. But the only thing she has going for her is that she is spending a lot of money. Should she wait right before they call it to drop her tickets in? No, because that pisses everyone off in any drawing. Just like I hate to see late arrivals come in and start running around cans dropping in tickets.

You are not being fair to you fellow tricky trayers.

Granted, she is probably spending serious money, but she knows that she is not doing it the right way. Does she care, apparently she doesn't.

Hey, the next time she does it, maybe the cans she put her tickets in last can mysteriously "tip over" into the garbage or into another can like magic. Lol.

Good luck guys!

Touching the ticket can/bag should be strictly against the rules (except for maybe accidently dropping the wrong color ticket in)

If you want tickets spread throughout teh can-make a few trips around the table-one early-one later.....

Somebody has to be the last person to place tickets in a can--if drawing is set to begin at 7pm-there is nothing wrong with dropping tickets in the last 5 minutes-the wrong thing is to continue after that time and hold up the calling...I've been to TT that specifically allow extra time to continue to play higher levels during 'break times' or while lower level prizes are called-
But this should be stated by the organization-
i.e. at 7pm all ticket dropping will be ended or you can continue to drop tickets until calling for that level starts

I went to a nice TT recently that had a list of rules on the first page of the program-maybe MR TT could put a list of suggested policies up for organizations to use--including-no bent tickets, rip tickets at your seat instead of 1 at a time at the prize table=go in numerical order-

I would think an early ticket has a better chance than a last minute ticket as if the can is dumped into a bucket-the first bottom ticket would end up on top
Anonymous said…
Is there some rule about only putting in 1 or 2 tickets-I don't find anything wrong with putting a handful of tickets in one bucket-If I buy 200 tickest, but am only interest in 25 prizes-I will spread the tickets among those prizes-yes I have a better chance of winning those 25 baskets, but it is only in relation to the amount of money I spent-just the same way a person can by 1, 100, or 1000 lottery tickets-why can't a TTer take as many chances on a prize as she wants
Anonymous said…
Last minute fairness-

I could say I don't think it is fair for the people to be waiting at the door when it opens and being the first to put their tickets inthey get more of a chance to spread tickets around-and thrn complain about the late comers

-I work late on Fridays-there is an event I really want to go to-but I can't be there to until the last 1/2 hour of ticketing-what am I supposed to do-take off from work-I get 10 sick/vacation days per year---i need them for when i am sick or for things I have to do-not what I want to do-so yes-I will be dropping my tickets to the last minute

It sounds like TT are becoming as much of an attitude convention as BINGO-

Yes there are some rules to be followed, but some of these complaints seem petty

To all you latecomers:

I have no problem with your arriving near the end of the drop time, BUT do not expect the organizers to allow you to purchase and drop tickets after the stated calling time.

The only real "advantage" latecomers could have is that they see which items have the least tickets in their buckets and can therefore "stuff" the bucket. Of course, there is a reason these have less tickets - they're usually crappy prizes!

And, under NO circumstances should you be putting your hands in any of the bags or buckets! If you put the wrong tickets in, either speak with someone working the tricky tray or buy more tickets and consider it an extra donation.
Anonymous said…
Can't wait till Friday - St. Joseph's School in Newton! I went last year and thought it was great. The first two levels were really nice - the first level starts at $100! I don't remember the ticket prices, but I think they were ok. They draw a big crowd, but it's so worth it!

I tried to get tickets to Our Lady of Mount Virgin in Middlesex and was told they are all sold out.

BOO Our Lady of Mount Vigin. You never offered a contact number or anything.

BAD AUCTION OF THE YEAR: OUR LADY OF MOUNT VIRGIN. I hope no one attends.
Anonymous said…
I don't feel the lady who was shaking the buckets is a petty situation. I like many other women and/or men look for a fun night or afternoon out at these tricky trays. We're there to have a good time and hopefully win. But to go one step further to change your chances of winning should not be tolerated. We are all there to win something. If we all kept getting up after numbers are being called to shake these containers so our numbers get a better chance to get picked, there would be a bunch of unruly people. This woman does not belong at these trick trays. Someone should tell her to go to wallmart and do her shopping.
Anonymous said…
I have no problem with people buying 50.00 to 200.00 worth of tickets, but to wait, then put some tickets in, then shake it and put some more is uncalled for.
I also don't think this is petty.
We are all there to win something the fair way.
Anonymous said…
Throw the clown out next time. Let her sit in the parking lot and think about the error of her ways.

She is a CHEAT!

If that is the case all of use would be shaking buckets all night long!
Anonymous said…
Maybe if the caller would properly shake the CONTAINER WITH LID that they poured the can of tickets into everything would be fair and square. Instead we either get 1.stirred,
2. dumping and peeking into without stirring or shaking
3. or the old stick my hand in the paper bag and pull one out trick.

with that said, I also agree that no one should shake or reach into a container or in any way touch the container other than to simply drop the ticket in. Maybe a sign should be posted at the entrance saying, if you touch a container or put your hand in one you will be ejected from the event immediately!

You know on reading some of these comments - you people scare me - these events don't sound like fun anymore, because you have half of the coordinators scared to death of making a mistake - however minor it might be.

Give people a break, or take a break yoursleves from attending so many events and thinking you know it all.

While you give out some good information, sometimes you are all a bit too petty.

Our Lady of Mount Virgin, Middlesex:

To all of the tricky-trayers who have been posting negative comments regarding the OLMV basket raffle....

I apologize that we were not able to accommodate all of you who voiced interest in attending our event. If you have bad things to say, plesae do not trash our school, our event or our committee. As Chairperson of this wonderful event, I must fall on my sword and take full responsibility for not expecting such an overwhelming demand for our tickets. Some explanation to you is in order. 2006 was our "rookie" year. I spent MANY evenings on your blogs, reviewing your comments and suggestions as to what to do/what not to do to make a raffle a success. We have a small venue (approx. 350 people). In 2006, we did not sell out until 2 days before our event. Local people did not seem to 'get' a tricky tray and it did not appear to generate much local interest. After months of very hard work by 25 very dedicated parents, we pulled off a nice event that substantially benefitted our school children. Because of all of your comments/suggestions that we took to heart and implemented at our raffle, people (a) had a good time (b) had a good chance to win a prize (our person to prize ratio was about 3 to 1) and (c) we ended the calling of over 280 baskets before 11:00. As the Chairperson of last year's event, I never dreamed we could have such success in only our first year. As the Chairperson, I certainly cannot take credit for the success of 2006's event, as I had a hard working committee beside me. No one was more surprised that I was when we were voted Best Tricky Tray of 2006. For 2007, we simply underestimated the excitement our raffle had generated. We have a small venue and have considered moving the raffle to a bigger location; however, that would mean more people and the odds of winning a prize would decrease substantially (and we'd have to charge more for admission, tickets, etc.) That did not seem like a good thing to do after only one year, even though it was a successful first year. I guess we did not want to get too big for our britches in just one year. We decided to keep our small venue and kept all of our policies the same. In 2007, we were simply not prepared for the huge response. Instead of selling out only 2 days prior to our event, we sold out immediately. This was completely unexpected. We posted the "Save the Date" not to be cute, but in hopes of generating some excitement for our raffle that we did not seem to get in our inargural year. We didn't have a lot of TT.com-ers at our raffle last year. We promoted this site to our guest in hopes of seeing successful events enjoyed by other worthy organizations as well. Seeing all of your comments telling people not to come now disappoints me, since it was this site and you folks who, in effect, helped us out in so many ways last year with your comments and suggestions on how to run a successful tricky tray. So, with that being said, on behalf of OLMV, I take full responsibility for the disappointment so many of you feel for not being able to get tickets to our event on November 9th. As I said, our demand locally was more overwhelming than we anticipated. I cannot shift the blame on the school, the raffle or the committee; I never imagined that our small school's event could possibly become so popular just one year out. Please accept my apologies. We really do have a nice event with some nice prizes and our children will truly benefit from the funds that we attempt to earn. I know some of you have now "black-balled" us and I am sorry that you will miss out and we will miss you. We would love to consider a bigger venue for next year but that decision has not been made. I personally regret any inconvenience that this may have caused to you and I hope that instead of all the negative posts, SOMEONE will give us some suggestions on how to balance the demands of the public with the demands of our local people so that we are not faced with this unfortunate situation again next year. Please don't count out this excellent event just because I made a "rookie" mistake by underestimating the excitement and popularity of our event. My goal in Chairing this event for OLMV was to bring a fun, new, and exciting event to the community where people can come and enjoy themselves, have the chance to win some amazing prizes (with pretty good odds) while raising much-needed funds for our school children. It would devistate me if, because of my shortsightedness, the school and the children suffer particularly because this is supposed to be a fun event. I do read all the comments so really, if you can help us out for next year in trying to balance a small venue with a huge demand, please let us know how to do it so that we don't suffer the same "negative" press that is so prevelent in the posts these past 2 days. Again, the blame must be layed here at ME and not on the School or the Event. Thank you. Susan S. OLMV Harvest Moon Basket Raffle Chairperson, 2006 and 2007 but not too sure about 2008 :-( anymore.

Like I said there need to be some rules-SOME (not all) comments are petty-Not all the comments are petty (such as touching the bucket or bending the tickets), but others make people sound like sore losers (or if they are winners-they din't win enough)

To OLMV,

Thanks for your response. I think what disappointed people on the site (including me!) is that the hold the date was there. If you had sold tickets to the people within your school earlier and then still had seats available, that's when you should have advertised on trickytray.com. I'm not blackballing your tricky tray and would try to go in the future if I could get tickets! Sounds like there are great prizes.
Anonymous said…
To the coordinator of Lady of Mount Virgin - I think it is a shame that you have to explain all your actions. Obviously you did the best you could and as you said didn't expect such a huge response - wouldn't we all love a big turnout at our events !

Yes, I have "studied" this website intently, but still are making mistakes - there will never be the perfect tricky tray as far as I can tell, no matter what the coordinators do - it is months of worrying, spending lots and lots of hours on the computer, putting baskets together, spending money - and for what - to be shot down by people who have assumed they know it all.

Good luck with your event, I am sure it will be a huge success.

Don't get disheartened.

To the Our Lady of Mount Virgin Coordinator:

I was able to get some last minute tickets to your tricky tray last year. I will corroborate with the coordinator that the event is smaller than the more established tricky trays. Winning the Best Tricky Tray of 2006 had to generate a lot of interest and obviously more than you expected. Keep your head up. I go to a lot of tricky trays and even though I don't have tickets to this year's, your not on my "right side" list. I hope you can move off site sometime. I enjoyed your event last year. Much success again.

I gotta tell ya, I find it rather pathetic that some people here would trash a freaking grammer school because they haven't kissed your butt. So you don't get to go to OLMV this year. Get over it, people. I wanted to see Bruce Springsteen's rehearsal show last month but couldn't get tickets. Am I going to blackball The Boss?
Anonymous said…
OLMV. You sound like you did the best job you could have. Who could have anticipated your popularity since this is only the 2nd year? I have been on these raffle committees and know first-handedly that decisions are made as a group. Your group sounds like it did the best job with the information it had. Besides, at the end of the day, if you have made a difference in the library books, computer lab or educational supplies this school can now purchase because of your efforts, you have made a difference in the lives of the children and families of that school. Believe me, volunteering, for the most part, can be thankless job. That's why you can only get a small group of parents that are actually willing to do this, in addition to their parenting and full-time jobs. You do not get paid. Your only motivation is the hope that you can make a difference in your school for your children and their friends. If you have succeeded in this than indeed you are a success. Please do not take anonymous negative comments to heart. It takes a special kind of person to take on such awesome responsibilities. I am so sure you are a valued member of the OLMV community, school and parish. I hope you double your earnings of last year. Good luck to you next year as well.
Sincerely,
A Fellow Volunteer
Anonymous said…
Yeah, let's hear it for OLMV - anyone who steps up to the plate to take on such responsibilities should be commended. I work with a much smaller group and we don't have committees and such to put this together - IT IS A LOT OF HARD WORK and beleive me has taken up most of my summer and then to have people trash you and all you have done. You are right - get over it and just let these evetns become fun - look at the news on the TV and see what is going on in the world today - can you help in anyway rather than just complain about whether a ticket was bent, or you didn't get a ticket.

Get a life.

Wow, and we wonder why the great TT's don't stay consistent from year to year! People lay so much grief on VOLUNTEER organizers who at the end of the process are burnt out, unappreciated, and tired of their work getting bashed by the school yard 'drive-in and drive-out mothers' and our amazingly vocal bloggers. Is it any wonder that the quality of TT events varies from year to year?

To all the TT organizers who read this blog...Thank you for investing your time to fight with your committees, your school, your organizations, playground naysayers and husbands who feel neglected as their lives get upended during TT season! I like going to Tricky Trays, and if it weren't for you...we'd be back at bingo!

Just like the school children--Learn to take the compliments and constructive criticism. Learn and grow to be the best you can be. Anyone that has helped at a tricky tray knows what hard work it is. Sometimes only a few volunteers to do all the work. Most mistakes are easy to fix. You can't just take peoples money. Win or lose must people will walk away happy if the job is done right! LEARN AND GROW.

Yes, your right! people don't realize this is run by people GIVING there time WITHOUT pay, to help a school.

Many time you have if lucky 5 families to help. I have noticed more and more events being run by less and less people and there is lots to take into account, if you work forget it. This puts such a strain on your family ...that most people can't do it every year. YOU simply BURN OUT - WITHOUT THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF SUPPORT FROM THE SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY.

Lay off the volunteers - this is not there paying job, they do it to help and help should be appreciated not critizied.

To the person who talks about putting in tickets at the very end.

Here is a thought????

Its dosen't matter if the tickets are put in 1st or last. When the caller shakes up the container and pours the ticket into another container the tickets get mixed up ANYWAY.

Your being petty!!!!!!!!! Its a matter of LUCK.
Anonymous said…
Yes, you are right BURN OUT - I am ot doing it next year. It gets harder and harder each to solicit form local businesses, most of them only give to schools anymore - which is good, but there are other groups out there, but I undertsand that they get "hit up" a lot for various things.

It seems no matter what you do, you displease somebody and they don't come to your event - maybe best if they are going to cojme along and complain and then trash you on this website.

I know I am doing the best I can to put our event on and that is all I can do - I have put my husband abd family, home, pets and social life on hold because of this and will not do it again next year if people who think they "know it all want to trash you".

I agree, what does it matter if you get your ticket in first or last, they get shaken up anyway.

It's kind of like Ellen DeGeneres with the little dog - she tried to do the right thing and it turned out she got bit in the butt.

This is again another example of "no good deed goes unpunished." For all the hours that the VOLUNTEERS put in organizing the OLMV Tricky Tray to benefit their children's school --all that good feeling was dashed by a disgruntled group who probably never organized anything. And to write that they hoped no one would attend....hello....it's sold out.
The chairperson and her committee are to be commended for their hard work. To have to read what I've read is so sad and demoralizing. Who would want to work on a committee knowing there were others out there ready to make comments and potshots. Another thought...It's better to have it sold out than have it half empty so that the OLMV committee could hope that some outsiders would show up and maybe show some profit.
And to the people who are complaining about the person who puts the tickets in last...All I have to say is that you must have agreat life if this is what you are worrying about.
Anonymous said…
All we are hearing is about how hard the volunteers work to organize these things. How tired the volunteers are after work. Why dont we hear about the people who attend the events? How hard they work at thier job to get the money to spend at the event. How tired they are after working all day getting the money. We all know people work hard for fundraising of any kind, not just tricky trays. Just because you organize a fundraiser does not automatically make you immune to any sort of critsism. You cannot expect to be held harmless just because you are volunteers. I also thought volunteering was supposed to be an anonymous, generous gesture to support a cause or help someone. I didnt know it was something you do to get a big pat on the back and recognition. And for the organizers to say no one should be angry because there were no tickets for outsiders is unbelieveable. Do you really expect us to believe that your TT was voted best TT of 2006 and you really didnt know people were going to come in droves? You may be sold out this year but I think your going to have a big suprise next year. Next year I would stick to the small venue that only seats your insiders.

I am helping to plan a tricky tray in Spring 08 for our school in Hunterdon County. This is new to all of us that are putting this together and to be frank, after reading some of these postings I'm almost scared to advertise it here. I would love to hear your comments on what are "standard" rules for a TT, what are the usual value levels and what value is considered a "grand" or "super" prize. What about ticket prices..they seem to vary between events. What is considered "too expensive" Any other tips you can provide would be most helpful. We want nothing more than for this to be a successful fun time for all.

I would think twice about advertising your event on this site too if I were you. These people are vicious. Look what they are doing to OLMV. Apparently they did well enough last year at their first tricky tray and then all these people start saying all this bad stuff about their event AND their organizers because they could not get tickets. Well Boo-Hoo on you. If you really want to see how it is done, go to another event in your area, be sure to get a copy of their program, and then CALL or contact their chair person and ask for some guidance. Most decent people, unlike the a lot of people on this site, will be happy to help you and and point you in the right direction. Otherwise, every mistake you make along the way will be blown up by these people on this site and your organization will get negative press. Stick to your local community and you'll do fine. Stay away from these people. They have no life, have never ran any type of event, and think that THEY need a "pat on the back" because they "come to these events and spend money." Well, good for you. Maybe these people should save their money and buy a life. Do yourself a big favor and find another way to research running your event other than here. You'll be glad when they don't later have the opportunity to rip you, your team and your organization apart for not meeting their every whim. Good luck! And to OLMV, I hope you show them all and have another GREAT event again this year, without them!

Ok - let's get on to other topics! No one tricky tray meets everyone's expectations. Keep advertising on trickytray.com [only when you have tickets available] and give us as many details as possible so we can make an informed decision. We appreciate all the hard work of the volunteers!

SO - Where is everyone going this weekend?

I will move on to another topic when I am good and finished with OLMV.

I started telephoning their offices in August 2007.. before a committee was information. I spoke to live people in August, September and October.

My interest was clearly there and I had every intention of buying admittance tickets in abundance. I have a problem with OLMV and it if was a PRIVATE auction it should have never been posted on this site.

Whomever kept taking messages clearly had my name and number and I received a call back from the committee chairperson detailing when I could purchase tickets.

Why is it when I call for tickets on the date you tell me to call - you say they are sold out.

Clearly there was not a contact number on Tricky Tray.com and I went to great lengths just to speak to a live person.

If you ADVERTISE HERE then we are expected to RESPOND from here. Not by calling you and being told you are sold out. You never mentioned a start time here or contact, but clearly you knew who I was because you called me after finding out I had been doing research for 3 months.

Yes, I have a problem with you as the chairperson and no apology you can give me will be accepted.

I don't care what you do beyond here.

For all the folks accepting this behavior you are in the same boat with her.

And for your information, I am an event planner 22 years strong and we stand by our events. If we advertise tickets, then our customers are able to get tickets. Why type of business would we be if we didn't accomodate the customer?

We applaud OLMV for meeting the needs of its students, but in order to keep the funds coming, you should better strategize your fundraising efforts. What happens when you "private investors" can't invest one year, and you might possibly have to rely on the folks who you shunned because all of your "friends" just had to be in attendance?

Bad business OLMV and false advertisement. Why advertise at all?

To the person who said the people here are "vicious"...not a fair desciption. The people here are honest.

To the organizer planning the Hunterdon 2008 TT. By all means, you can get a lot of useful tips here. Don't be scared by the comments for they are not here to put fear in you. OLMV totally screwed up this year period. They were voted best tricky tray and got too grand period. You already know that the word is out and people (not just their friends) are going to want to attend. I am a true tricky trayer and to be perfectly honest, I have never seen a tricky tray sold out before the tickets "officially" went on sale. I mean, it's not a Bon Jovi concert... it's a room full of donated prizes. Popular by chance yes, but the event of the year..no.

When planning your 2008 event, make sure that the room will accomodate "OUTSIDERS" and not just your immediate circle of friends or people YOU deem fit to attend your PRIVATE auction.

Have your gifts attractively wrapped or presented. Tricky trayers hate OLD attic stuff that looks worn.

If something costs $5.00 retail, but no means put it on the high end table. That will send everyone running for the hills.

Have enough ticket sellers throughout the room to avoid long lines. The longer the lines, people tend to get out of line thereby hurting ticket sales.

Start early... the more prizes you have, the more tickets will be purchased.

Have callers who are clear speaking and not comedians. We don't want to hear a joke everytime a ticket is called.

And one of the THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS EVER...

SHAKE THE BUCKET, BASKET, BOWL or whatever device you are using to pick your numbers - up. Can't stress this enough.

If a caller is looking down into a bucket pulling out numbers, there are invisible knives and daggers hitting him on ever pull. Trust me.

Also, please try to have the same colored ticket, especially on the cheap tables. Nothing pisses attendees more by having two colored tickets.

For example: A caller will pull out a number and say: Blue ticket or pink ticket and it's all for the same table. If you don't have either color, you are doomed from the start. Buy enough of the same color to lessen the aggravation.

Try to start on time if you can. Not a biggie, but at least 10 minutes after the scheduled start time is acceptable.

OLMV has a nerve to be offended. Hopefully you will learn that it is not nice to mess with tricky trayers or it will come back to bite you in the butt. Learn from the mistake and fix it next year.

Period.
Anonymous said…
You people really need to get a life. The chairperson of OLMV apologized and asked for suggestions so that they would not have the same problem next year, but you continue to badger her. She admitted that it was a "rookie" mistake. Give her a break ... try to give her some help not attitude.
Anonymous said…
Re: OLMV....

Was this her first year? Well if it was she is learning from her mistake. Next time you advertise an auction, have tickets available. A few tricky trayers called her way before the start of the sale of tickets and the common sense approach would have been to keep a log of the callers and hold tickets aside especially since they were trying to buy them for months before the tickets supposedly went on sale.

How could tickets be sold out and you never advertised a contact number on the site? Interesting.

Then I believe the organizer offered folks to be put on a waiting list. A waiting list for what? A waiting list for next year?

Although probably not totally intentionally, it was done incorrectly. I am sure the tricky trayers here have lives and are just a free to express their honest opinion as the organizer.

Hey, their loss.

Wouldn't it be great if all tricky trays stopped advertising on this website because of all of you obnoxious people? Then what would you do with your lives? Remember that these events are to raise money for good causes..this isn't Atlantic City or the horse tracks. They ask for donations from us and in return give us a chance to win some nice prizes. It's meant to be a nice night out with friends and instead you have turned it into bad mouthing and an awful mess. To Susan from OLMV, you have done a wonderful job and I am looking forward to this years event. Please don't let a handful of nasty people take your focus off of what is important..the children. Small venues are always better and more enjoyable and I hope that you continue to use the school. I enjoy going to tricky trays and i enjoy knowing that my money goes to the kids rather than a casino. OLMV got my vote for last year because it was so well organized and so nice..thats all that matters..not these nasty people. Truth be told, I'd be happy I didn't have any tickets left to sell to these nasty people. Tricky tray organizers should be commended and yes, they deserve a pat on their backs!

Why not put all this aside and go to the PAL Tricky Tray tomorrow - they always have beautiful baskets.

Regarding the butt backwards comment left by this kiss up....

Apparently you were in the "club" last year that's how you got your ticket. You got a CHANCE to win, because you were given a CHANCE to buy a ticket. None of us were.

We have no problem supporting a tricky tray we can at least get a ticket to. Everyone on the site has a life and who are you to say that one doesn't.

So what the tricky tray is organized. So what you "voted" last year... they won't get any of our votes this year because we were not afforded the opportunity to attend.

The folks here aren't nasty, just saying what needs to be said.

Next time have the tricky tray in the basement of your home and tack a big sign outside your house. This is just about what you are doing anyway expressing a small venue and select people.

Hey it is what it is.

The real tricky trayers spend a lot of money and aren't use to this type of behavior from "ORGANIZERS" so if you get a rebuttal, it is probably worth rebutting.

Hopefully someone else will be in charge next year and properly sell tickets on the site that it advertises on.

I'm going to St. Joseph's in Newton tonight. It's usually crowded, there are no advance ticket sales and there are no tables to sit at. BUT, the regulars start at $100 and ticket prices are pretty good.
Anonymous said…
Whoever wrote this can you tell me which tricky tray this was at. I think I know exactly who you are talking about. She does it all the time. I said to my friend there is some way this lady keeps winning and I could not figure it out until last week when I watched her very closely. It was sort of bugging me. How does she win at least half of all the big prizes. I don't think they can stop her though because technically she's not doing anything wrong but morally I think she is.
-------------------------
To All Tricky Trayers:

Let me tell you all about the really bad tricky tray at St. Peter's Episcopal Church - Clifton. Where to start ok I call earlier in the day just to make sure I can get tickets at the door. It's a drive and I just want to confirm. The very nice man said yes, and I confirmed the time with him doors open at 6 and calling at 7. Which it CLEARLY states on this website. I get there early to make sure I get a parking spot. They only have a small lot to hold about 15 cars. I get there and see the father and ask him what door to stand at and asked again about the time because there was only one other person waiting in a car. He clearly states 6 again. As 5:45 is approaching a few other regulars get there and we are waiting and it's pretty cold but no big deal because we only have to wait 15 more minutes. Then a few workers come and they say boy you guys are here so early. We are all kind of looking at each other like huh? So we tell them it said doors open at 6 and we get oh no they open at 7. They walk in and shut the door behind them even though I show them the add that was printed on site. (always print them people) Then a few more workers come say the same thing. So then we beg them to let us stand inside and wait. You think they would go out of there way for there mistake. NO NO NO Then once we get to stand inside some of the people were very rude acting like it was our fault that they put it on here wrong and we were waiting there. There were a few nice ladies there but they were no match for a few of those rotten apples. The father comes back to us says he's sorry and they don't know where the lady is who put it on the site. (Like finding her would change what was going on.) He also said to us a few times we are going to get you guys in early and we are sorry. Then this one Very mean lady comes out and says to us after waiting another 40 minutes that there was no way she was letting us in early and she was going to go and tell the father that. She did make us wait until 7 to get in and could care less. They made a big mistake they didn't care about any of us and out right lied about letting us in early so because we were told we were getting in early we all stayed and waited. You are a church and you this is not the nicest way to treat people. There prizes were below average and I spent one third of what I normally do just because of the way we were all treated. A big handful of us did that. I hope they never have another one or they get nice people to run it with good morals!

Can any rationale person on this site tell me why "organizing/running/or coordinating" a tricky tray gives the right for committee workers to lose their "darn" minds?

They go from the sweetest people while soliciting gifts, to androids from space when you ask the simplest of questions.

I am of the firm belief that if you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen. Sure there is anxiety to be had in any function, but if anxiety aint your thing, then an auction isn't either.

Non one is going to come to an auction and put up with you B.S. - I personally know I'm not. That is from the staff at the door to the cooks in the kitchen. We are doing you a favor and you are obligated to be nice. Period.

If all of us turn around and walk right out the door - perhaps that will give you a moment to think about why your butt was on your shoulders in the first place.

Chill out and let the night happen. If you make a mistake in your ad, fix it with courtesy and not cockiness. Hey, life is a two way street... you get as good as you give.

I AGREE!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was at one last week in dover, and when it started to rain, there was a few people waiting in line at 6:00 when door open at 6:30. The lady organizing the event, rushed the worker that where there to the admission door and told the people as they were walking in that they where not fully ready, but because of the rain she was not going to have them stand in the rain. We went in all the workers where NOT in place but we knew that, but she quickly set up a universal table for a one-stop ticket purchase.

Because of this I called a few of my friends who said they where not going out because of the rain, they showed up ... we had a great time. I also noticed a few people pick up there cell phone and start calling their friends.

I guess it all goes to the organizer. The more experiece they are the better they are to handle issue and make dission on the spot. I was also suprized to see some very nice big items, notebook, Flat TV, Freezer and some really nice stuff. the display was easy to follow. Table color match the tickets. Like this......... keep it simple. I also liked the food, chilli & stew.... I was getting tired of the hotdog and pizza thing we ALWAYS see at a tricky tray, no matter where you go (of course under $15 admission).

*** Key things to remember this is about fundraising and SERVICE to the community (customer).***

Constructuve criticism is fine for this site-helps organizers to learn and avoid future mistakes-tirades are inappropriate as it may scare well meaning people away.

I just went through this with my homeowners association-they use to talk down to and berate the owners in the neighborhood-after a lengthy battle-the old bosses were ousted and new ones voted in-the letters that discuss problems are now constructive in nature and both sides are more responsive

Am I the only one who went to a tricky tray this weekend?

I went to St. Joseph's School in Newton. I thought the prizes were nice ($100 value) and the prices were good ($5 a sheet - 6/$25). The next level was really good, too (10 tickets for $5 - values $125+). The only problem there is that they ran out of tickets. But, they did quickly get additional tickets and resume selling. As in the past, I'm not that impressed with the really big prizes. Instead of a few hundred dollars worth of groceries (16 bags! and then maybe $150 in gift cards), spend all the money on gift gards and have the prize be $500 in shop rite gift cards). I also think the dine-around could have been broken into a couple of prizes. And, it's great that you have sponsors who will donate mulch, concrete, etc., but those items don't necessarily have broad appeal and for many tricky tray goers, they are not worth the retail value, so we won't spend big money on tickets ($6 each).

It's a very crowded tricky tray - good thing I didn't win anything because there would have been no place to put it! I understand that not all tricky trays can have tables to sit at, but if you have rows of chairs, try to make it a little more spaced out. I guess because of the heavy rains this year they didn't have the regular baskets outside under the tents, so it seemed even more crowded indoors.

I also attended the St. Joseph's TT this past weekend. Let me just say that I am one of those people who goes to one every Friday night. This one ranks among the best. The prizes were great. The prices were fair. Yes, it was crowded but that's not their fault. They clearly stated no bent tickets which makes someone like me very happy. I did not win anything but I felt like they did a good job.

Back when this site started, it was tt enthusiasts sharing info about when where and how good various events were. Now the Event coordinators are posting here and tracking the comments to judge how well they did and a few coming back in mass to skew the voting to try to get the coveted "Best tt of the Year". A few get overly defensive with comments which I expect is how they react to most things in their tightly wound lives. Mr Tricky Tray could put together a How-To Manual to sell with the various tshirts et cet to help fund this site.
Anonymous said…
Yes, you are correct - last year I monitored the site, etc., and learned a great deal from it, however, the last couple of weeks have been brutal on here and I won't check it again or put on a Tricky Tray again. It was fun last year to see the comments made because non of them were bad, but I can imagine that when you put so much work into something and peopel trash you so badly, it is human nature to go to your own defense.

I wish you all well and enjoy the future TT's coming up. I won't be checking this site again.

Mr. Tricky Tray you do a great service.
Anonymous said…
Watch this fellow tricky trayers.. to the person who said they "wouldn't check the site again"

This is for the last comment:

"Boo Hoo Hoo" woe is me... the faithful tricky trayers on this site are talking about me!

Tricky trayers have every right to voice their opinions be it good, bad or indifferent. We have to agree to disagree sometimes. While I have been to some great auctions... some are horrible and I don't care how much work you put into it.

I know anxiety runs high in organizing and running these events, but the short tempers and rudeness that some organizers display at some events will not be tolerated. While you organized it.. we are the ones spending the money. If we don't show up, you don't make a cent.

Grow up and get over it. If you are in the tricky tray business you are going to have to toughen up. And that my friend is called: LIFE.

Has anyone heard if West Morris HS on Bartley Rd will be having a Proj Graduation tt next spring? They used to also have a Dec tt.

I know West Morris Central didn't have one last spring because they claimed a lack of volunteers, etc. and ran an art auction instead. They used to have a GREAT tricky tray. I hope they do it again! Mendham High School puts one on in the spring for Project Graduation and I think one of the classes may do one in December.

It's okay to say something like

'The workers were rude when they said xyz'

'They did not have enough abc'

'The seating was uncomfortable because 123'

'Tickets were priced too high for the trays offered'

'I wish people would rip their tickts at their table instead of 1 at a time in front of the prizes'

But, a long tirade and lambasting are uncalled for.

For example-(this is fake-just for demonstration)-the following is over the top

there is a person I see at a lot of tricky trays-she always slows up the line-stops to look at every package for a long time and then rips 1 ticket at a time. This is rude and inconsiderate and stupid-she seems obliviously that there are a room full of people trying to enjoy themselves-but she wastes there time by blocking the buckets--get a clue-have some common sense and be considerate of others-

The 1st examples are constructive-the last is demeaning and beligerant and people have the right and duty to defend themselves against that type of garbage

In case anyone is interested in next year's, I went to the RBARI TT on October 17, my 3rd year going. RBARI is where I got my cat (shelter in Oakland), so I like to support them & usually donate as well.

The first year I didn't win a single thing, but it was fun. Last year I won a really cute cookie jar & advertising, which was great, 'cause my mother and I are both business owners - the paper let me split the 8 ads I won into 4 & 4. I was disappointed that the same prize wasn't available this year - but that's NO reflection on RBARI or the TT.

This year, I spent a bunch of money and actually won FIVE prizes! That tells me something: They ONLY pull flat tickets, first & foremost. I don't bend my tix, so they couldn't have been pulling bent tickets - and I did see several in the bins. Ha to the cheaters!

It's a more expensive tricky tray - a dinner one - but dinner was good. They call pretty fast, and there were LOTS of prizes. The divisions of levels is a little odd - they have 4 regular levels. But then they also have a separate drawing for trips & another separate one for the lottery tree. And then the 50/50. I don't bother with the trips or lottery tree, myself. The trips include plane tix & the stay, but they're for specific weeks/weekends so you have to be free on that exact date.

Mendham hs has a Freshman tt in December that tends toward very small. The class advisors organizes that one and have whatever the kids bring in. Their spring one is fantastic and heavily organized by parents to support Project graduation. Those who travel a distance to get to Mendham need to make sure which event is which.

The blog area has many comments about bent tickets and feelings run high that it makes a difference or it doesn't make a difference. Most feel cheating should result in automatic disqualifying all tickets that are different from what they should be. It's not about how confident the organizer is that the marked tickets are not making a difference. Allowing them to be drawn leaves you open to complaints that the auction was rigged.
about the 'over the top' comment about people holding up the line tearing tickets one by one: There are several I know who carefully tear their tickets individually so that they are ragged and uneven. It's a version of 'bent' ticket because they certainly don't look or feel like a normal ticket. The tear goes down either side of the perforation so the tickets can be slightly bigger or smaller but that ragged uneven edge makes them different. Check out the big ticket prize buckets and you will see more unevenly torn tickets than bent tickets. People who do this are often heard to complain 'it's so hard to tear these tickets' but notice how they refuse to crease the tickets which makes tearing on perforation a non-issue. duh Some of the regular winners of big prizes are the biggest proponents of uneven tears and slightly curling/bending their tickets. This is most effective where the high school kids are allowed to draw tickets or worse, random members of the audience.

Hey, perhaps one day and auction will sell non-bendable pre ripped tickets - all ripped the same length and height. Lol

Would that satisfy the tricky tray community?

lol those nonbendable, pre-ripped tickets should also be nonabsorbant. Remember a few months back the lady who was licking her tickets before she threw them in the bag?

Nothings perfect, but some things are very premeditated and leaves the organizers looking like they are in on something illegal

Good Job!!!!!!!

I attended Delaware River Conservatory 11/3 and it was just delightful. It was a small regular TT, nothing fancy. The prizes were quite nice, the prices were excellent, the people running it were very nice. they had hot dogs, heros, cakes and all kinds of drinks for sale cheap. There was absolutely no chaos, the people were quiet and nice to one another. I am glad I went there from N. Jersey. I will definitely go next year. I hope they have it again.

I went to the Liberty Humane Society Tricky Tray in Jersey City tonight. It was their first and they did a good job. Lots of good prizes, small crowd, lots of winners, free coffee and homemade desserts, nice people. They had prizes that were animal related, but they also had a good variety of other things. I won a lot of nice things for my dog, but also a nice wine set for me.

I went to the Hackettstown PTA TT on Friday night.

Very smoothly run. Great prizes. Good prices. Great caller. Good food and good prices.

If I had to give some constuctive critisism it would be to somehow set up the sale of regular tickets differently so the line for them would have moved more quickly. Perhaps two stations for ticket sales, or looking into pre-sale tickets.

God only knows that when you have 400+ attendies, your not going to please everyone, but I for one had an awesome time, and thought everthing was run well.

Just please if you, the organizers, do get any critisism, don't let that irk you, just try to take it and learn from it. Do know that you all did a great job as far as the event went.

Does anyone have any comments on the upcoming tricky tray at St. Cecelia's in Iselin? I have my ticket, but haven't been before, so I'd like to know what to expect in terms of prizes and prices.
Thanks!

St. Cecelia's had a GREAT auction last year. Very nice prizes. Tickets were kind of hard to rip though. Everyone's wrists were hurting. Think they got a bad batch. Officer on duty was EXTREMELY rude, along with just one worker and such was uncalled for...but everyone ELSE was very nice and the prizes were top of the line. They really had a great auction and everyone seemed to be winning. I am also attending this Friday.

Also, don't know if you guys know about Holy Spirit's gift auction... held every first Friday in December. They never advertise here, but they also have a great auction. If you go into Holy Spirit School - Union, NJ, the details should be listed. Betty Speronza is the chairperson. This auction is so popular, they don't have to advertise and the organizers are SO nice. I have been going for 10 years and each year it gets better and better. Some of the prizes in past years: 6 foot curios, 4 rooms of carpet, trips, hotel stays, lottery and money trees and hats, 7 foot Christmas trees, pairs of lighted reindeers...you know... big stuff that won't fit in your car.

Lenox, Mikasa, Lladro.. they really have their act together. If you get a chance, check them out. The line to get in starts forming at 4:00 P.M. - trust me, I was the first one there one year.

To all the St. Cecelia people on this Friday.. good luck. I will be the one with the twirly ball that will be going up in the air every two minutes saying "right here"!

Hackettstown tt was run very well considering the number of people. Great prizes and things moved smoothly.
Could organizers not wanting the hassel of ticket presales, consider sending a couple workers out to sell tickets to those standing in line before the doors open? Even 10 or 15 minutes of this type of preselling would make a world of difference to the immediate congestion getting people in the doors.

I went to St. Cecelia's in Iselin. There were a lot of prizes and we didn't get out until midnight! There were tables to sit at and they were not all jammed together. For me, there were too many levels of prizes and so many at the higher levels. I think there were 60 prizes at the $100 plus level and the tickets were 5 for $10. So, needless to say, it became an expensive evening!
Anonymous said…
Our Lady had over 160 prizes at the $150 level and 2 prizes at over $3000 as well as a hundred at two levels in between. They had at least 60 door prizes and two 50/50s that each had totals over $1400. There must've been at least 300 total prizes awarded for the less than 400 people in attendance. The event was well-organized and had a good pace. I can see why there is such a great demand for tickets. There may be some whiners here who got locked out and will complain for the sake of complaining, but clearly Our Lady runs a great show.

Nice job Our Lady of Mount Virgin. I was with a table of about a dozen people who have never been to your school and/or tricky tray. Most of us all won something. The workers were SO helpful. We didn't even have to leave our seats if we wanted more tickets. They had tasty complimentary desserts and FREE water, soda, coffee, and tea. The prizes were great and presented nicely. I would have been happy with one of the two 50/50s -- one was over 1500 and the other over 1100. Great work Our Lady of Mount Virgin. I don't know who the blogger before me was reffering to when they said someone was whining BUT I AM DEFINITELY NOT ONE OF THEM!!!

Oh my goodness ... what a great time I had at Our Lady of Mount Virgin last night!!!!! There were so many wonderfule prizes (Flat screen TV, Disney World passes, WII, a new bathroom, a trip to St. Thomas, TWO $1,000 plus 50/50's, and baskets galore. The baskets were beautiful and color coordinated. Everything was extremly well organized. FREE coffee, tea, soda, water and desserts. All the workers in their yellow T-shirts with name tags were overly helpful and friendly. I didn't even have to leave my seat to get tickets. The numbers were called and put on a screen. Baskets were brought to the winners. The whole event was run so well. I can see why there was such a demand for tickets. I can't wait to go back next year.

Tickets for Disney World? GREAT prizes. A little crowded but overall a great tt. Thank you.

Re: Our Lady's TT. As a parent at the school and the guy who served as "caller," I can tell you that a ton of work went into the TT and that without the work of dozens of people, it wouldn't have been as successful as it was. Moms baked, dads moved chairs and tables and a crew of moms and faculty gave their time and talents to wrapping night after night after night. Our Chair put together a great program and orchestrated a very dedicated crew.

That said, I have followed the postings here since tickets went on sale and have withheld comment until now. The absolute vitriol spewed by some of the people here is really a reflection of what we have become as a society. People whined incessantly about waiting lists and not getting immediate gratification like spoiled children because tickets were not instantly available. After seeing how great the demand was for tickets, the Chair decided to slightly reconfigure the room and most of people on the waiting list wound up getting tickets.

To the spoiled brats and whiney babies who chose not to get on the waiting list, your impatience was your loss, not ours. To those who excercised patience with us, I thank you, sincerely hope that you had a wonderful time and look forward to spending another evening in your company next autumn.

ABSOLUTELY AWESOME job Our Lady! What a great night, TONS of excellent prizes, friendly workers who were clearly identified, and VERY helpful.

I've seen all the negative comments that were posted initially and still cannot believe that adults would react this way. Let's remember that for any event, there are only so many tickets available, and reacting so badly is totally inexcusable. People really need to grow up and behave appropriately.

The amount of work that these people put into this event clearly shows. The prizes were outstanding, the refreshments were complimentary, everyone was friendly and courtious. TOP NOTCH JOB! I think a great job was done by this crew and look forward to this event next year.

OLMV did a have a well planned event, only complaint was a little to crowded. But the prizes made up for that and the people couldn't be friendlier.I wish my childrens school had parents like that...any room at yours? Great Job, see you next year!

Listen up ladies (and gentlemen), I have been to ALOT of tricky trays in the past few years and I knew OLMV was #1 last year and I think they were even better this year!! The prizes were AMAZING and so well put together. The quality of each basket, on every level, was tops! There were so many people involved, everything was so smooth and easy. And I want to say thank you to the ladies who let us wait online inside instead of in the cold. The night was wonderful and all in all just a good time. How about making this a bi-annual thing?? Thanks again!

I just want to say that I too ended up going to Our Lady in Middlesex last night (Friday) and I'm SO glad that I did. First of all, I wasn't sure about this "waiting list" thing but I didn't get tickets at first because they sold out, so I did give my name to the lady and she put me on the list. And guess what? She called me back and I did get tickets. So, for anyone who complained about it, I did it and it actually worked and I got my four tickets. I liked that we were able to come in out of the cold before the raffle started. While I waited inside, I had some time to look over the list of prizes and was amazed. They had TONS of parents working. Easily IDed (they all wore the same color shirts, which was a great idea). You couldn't go more than 2 feet without seeing someone walking around selling tickets. The prizes were HUGE. Baskets overflowing with excellent prizes. I won a HUGE basket with about $130 worth of stuff in it (and that was their "low" prizes). Refreshments were FREE (water and soda and homemade desserts). The caller was clear and quick. They have a big projector screen up with the numbers listed. People at my table won at lot of prizes. And although they called about 200 prizes (they had 2 50/50s... one was over 1700 and one was over 1300) AND beautiful door prizes (nice big potted plants), I still was HOME by 10:45!!! I could not believe that. I've been to these things with less prizes and I get home at midnight. Not there. The lady at the next table won a complete bathroom set (yes, a whirlpool tub and vanity and toilet) and someone won a trip to St. Thomas. I've been to LOTS of these things, big and small, for various charities and organizations and this one BY FAR was the best I've seen. You people put on a great show. I'm definitely going back next year, even if I have to put my name on that waiting list again. My patience was well worth it.

LENAPE VALLEY TT WAS GREAT. I ATTRIBUTE THE SUCESS ON THE FABULOUS CALLER. EVERYONE SOHULD HIRE THIS WOMEN.

i DIDN'T WIN ANYTHING BUT I HAD FUN LOTS OF NICE PRZES.
Anonymous said…
We went to the Lenape Valley TT last night. Really nice prizes. They had a bundle special for $35 which gave you tickets for each prize level. A really good deal.

I have to say we were very disturbed by the obvious bending of tickets in each bag. The organizers have to take more responsibility in posting signs and making announcements that NO bent tickets will be called! This is gambling and that is cheating.

We won and enjoyed ourselves very much. Refreshment were plenty and 50/50 was over $2000!! Nice job.
Anonymous said…
Lenape did a fine job with great prizes, good value in the 'bundle bag' of tickets, and the caller did do a good job of moving the evening along.
On the line of a constructive comment, consider doing something else with the large amount of doorprizes. Maybe include a doorprize in the bundle bag of tickets. The caller each year seems to get bored with the drawing out of tickets to handle these prizes. Throwing them out at the crowd, having runners simply hand them out to who they choose, asking who wants one and giving it to whoever she happened to be looking at is not random, not fair and still takes up time. Again, consider putting them in the bundle bags or hand them out one per attendee as they come in the door. ??

Sounds like OLMV is the one to beat again for "Best Tricky Tray 2007"
Anonymous said…
OLMV probably has limited need to advertise their event and that is meant as a complement. If they stick to the limited venue, there are few seats left for the public to purchase.
It's an ego boost to advertise as the 'best tt', but why bother if it just brings in those who whine.
Anonymous said…
Lenape Valley TT was outstanding. The trays were great....many of them on the regular level I have seen at other events on the special table that's how good it was. Trays were spaced out so that there was room to move even though it was very crowded. The doorprize handout got a little crazy and as a previous writter suggested, perhaps a goody bag for each attendee would be a better answer. Great job!!!!!!
Anonymous said…
OLMV TT is the best AGAIN!!! You guys have gone and outdone yourselves, it was a magnificent time. I, too, had to get on a wait list and got that call back with my tix, so it is open to the public and I will try to get tix again for next year. The prizes were out phenomenal!!!
Not to be petty, but that person who said in a previous post that they hoped nobody shows to the event, I'm here to tell you, it was your loss. It was a full house and a GREAT time. Great job OLMV!

Can anyone tell me why there are still people out there who bend their tickets...
went to the Ogdensburg tt last night and it was pointed out to the people running it that 2 woman were bending the tickets, so they made an announcement that they would not pull bent tickets - the 2 woman who were bending the tickets had the nerve to go up and complain that they should have made that announcement earlier before they dropped all of the tickets...I could not believe it.
Anonymous said…
Re: bent tickets: organizers need to make it clear that bent tickets will not be drawn, by putting it in their program AND posting signs and making announcements. I don't know why people continue to think that this is okay that they do this. The unfair advantage is that for the person who is pulling the tickets out of the bag or bucket, your hand "naturally" goes to a bent ticket (because it "stands out" from all the other "flat" tickets). It isn't fair. Those ladies who complained about it after they put their bent tickets in.. too bad. Try to play by the rules like everyone else does. People spend a lot of money at these events and just want to know that everyone has a fair chance at winning. Glad to see that many others think this too!!

I went to OLMV this Friday and they were great. I agree that they really do not have to advertise on this blog/site to pack their house. They now have a following simply by word of mouth so that they really don't need the exposure here. And despite all the bad things people were saying about them, it didn't appear to me that they suffered one bit. However, it is nice to gain recognition and be able to advertise that your event is "the best". They have an excellent event and they are hard to beat, whether or not you agree with how their tickets were available. Its easy to see why they sold out quickly. If you went, you know that they run a tight ship and pay attention to details.

Come on, TWO 50/50s and BOTH were over $1300.00 (I think one was over $1700.00 like some prior poster stated). I would have loved to have won one of those. You can say what you want about them, but the event was well worth it. For the price of the tickets to the value of the prizes to the FREE water and soda, my friends and I had a great time out and we are definitely putting them on our list again next year. (Oh yeah, I won a "second" level prize and it must have been worth over $250 bucks). They had around 15 grand prizes too (wish I won one of those too!)

And in response to the posters above on the bent tickets, they announce it ALOT, they have signs all around, and it was in their "rules" in their program. I spent a lot of money there and I was glad to see that they won't pull tickets that are bent by cheaters. I want to know that it's fair and I definitely thought that it was. Good job people! And trust me, I'm not an easy to please TT-er!

I was at the OLMV basket raffle on Friday night (11/10/07) and again -they outdid themselves! It was wonderfully run and the prizes that they had were even better than last year! What a wonderful event and definitely the best "tricky tray" in the state!

I am one of the first persons who called OLMV twice in AUUST 2007, 3 times in SEPTEMBER and throughout November trying to get tickets to their auction. I called before they even wrapped a friggin basket. I am rightfully upset and the way OLMV determines who attends their auctions is wrong. My name was clearly on their clip boards, pads or post its. I was courteous, respectful and wanted a table of 10. I was told that I would be called when I would be able to purchase tickets. I then received a call at home in OCTOBER and was told when to call for tickets. I called exactly to the minute and was told that there were no tickets available. How can you go from "no committee" totally in formation - to tickets sold out. YOU told me when to call you - then when I call you - you say tickets are sold out? To the folks that got your so called coveted tickets - well whoopeee... the sale of these tickets were done totally wrong. While OLMV was voted best tricky tray of last year, that doesn't give you the right to be selective. Personally, you can take your auction and do whatever you want with it.

In any event, I did attend a more CIVILIZED and structured auction on Friday night at St. Cecelia's in Iselin and I can certainly say they outdid themselves. VERY ORGANIZED. Kathy - hats off to you and job well done. Everything was totally great. Question, did you guys rob a liquor store or something? I have never seen so many liquor baskets being auctioned off! lol. But although the evening was kind of long... you guys did a phenomenal job. Simply loved the new layout.

The ONLY problem I had was with the series of tickets being drawn. Some series were drawn maybe twice in the midst of 100 orr so prizes. Shake up the bucket, change the caller, something....but you guys had some REALLY nice prizes. Couldn't have asked for better.

Great job and I am looking forward to attending next year.

Hey, perhaps everyone will because OLMV will only sell to select individuals.
Anonymous said…
You can obviously see how much it upset many of the tt’ers that were unable to attend OLMV’s basket raffle, I must say that I can empathize with them… …I was able to attend and I must say….they surely did miss out…It was a great tricky tray! Not being able to attend has obviously caused them distress to the point of lashing out without reason. We can forgive them this, I think; they’re obviously distraught. With all that said, OLMV SOLD OUT & HAD A HUGELY SUCCESSFUL NIGHT! Thanks for all of the hype!
Anonymous said…
Apparently, the sale of TT tix to OLMV was NOT done wrong because they sold out. Due to the reviews here by those in attendance, I think it is fairly obvious that they will sell out again next year. The person two posts above this one said she called numerous times, but never said she got on the waiting list; probably because she refused to be put on the list. If she had, she'd have gotten her tickets and had a great time. Instead, she chose to whine about it and complain and put down volunteers at a children's school and the school itself.

Most TT's are not run by people who run McDonald's and instant gratification is not always available. And schools spend most of their time trying to educate our children instead of worrying about people not getting TT tix. Sorry, but that's life.

Patience, people. It pays off!

I'm not a parent at OLMV but I do live near the school. I got tickets to the event and went on Friday. They had advertised as "Best Tricky Tray of 2006" as voted on by this site, so I decided to check you guys out. I was amazed and somewhat surprised at some of the comments that people make on this blog. They ran a tremendous event. The fact that you could not get tickets does not mean you trash the event or the people who run it; you simply find something else to do with your life. I didn't get tickets for my daughter to see Hannah Montana because she sold out in 2 minutes flat for Newark, but that does not mean I say unkind things about her, her organizers or promoters. That being said, I went to OLMV and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I can see why they were best of 2006 and will say that they will be hard to beat for 2007. They now have a HUGE following. You people just added to their hype, don't you get it? Every TT should only "hope" that you people trash their event as much as some of you did to OLMV... it will GUARANTEE YOU A SELL OUT LIKE THEY HAD. Remember, no PR is bad PR... you just make people want to see what all the hype is about. I'm glad I went. I will go again next year, but just like Hannah Montana or Bon Jovi, if I don't get tickets, I'm not going to sit home and cry about it or write nasty things about them... I'll simply find another organization to support. And to all of you who won't go "if a limo picked you up..." go to some other Catholic school and drop your "hard earned money" at their event. Support them. Its SO refreshing to see that people like you are so willng to fund schools and other organizations with your "hard earned money." Keep working hard and keep dropping your money so these kids can keep their schools open.

And to OLMV, you don't need these people at your event. You had a great, fun crowd, most of whom probably never even heard of "trickytray.com" so don't worry that you are getting some bad press here. You will pack your house year after year simply by continuing to do an excellent job, have great prizes at great prices, by only word of mouth. People will come to your event if they feel it is well run, fair and they have a chance to win. I definitely thought that all these things were done. Although I didn't win a prize, I had a TON of fun. I will keep my eyes open next year for advertising in places other than this site, so keep on doing what you are doing and good luck in 2008!!!

Please remember folks that TrickyTray.com only posts events..it does not judge, rate or offer commentary. The people get to choose "Best TRicky Tray of Year"! The blog, though setup by myself is a place where as Americans, you have freedom of speech. These are your opinions, not TrickyTray.com's

So don't bad mouth TrickyTray.com.
I was there last year for OLMV to advertise their First Event.

South River school gets my vote for best tricky tray. The line moved pretty good. The prizes and value were great. About 350 people and 500 prizes. Ticket prices were average. Not sure how anyone could top them.

Heard a conversation at the last event about how tt.com should have Best Dinner event tt, Best North NJ, South NJ and PA events (for example) each year. tt.com has certainly grown and attracted a huge following. (Yeaaaaa Mr TrickyTray) Considering the number and variety of events held, it might be time to come up with a different method which would honor more of the super events held.

An alternative to voting a best event, could be letting us vote a 1-5 star rating on all events. Open the rating period for just a limited time after an event is held. Sponsors could use their 5 Star rating in the next years promotion.

I attended the OLMV tricky tray on 11/9/07 and had a great time! The baskets were wonderful! They were all stuffed with several desirable items and there was such a vast assortment of items. Everything was very well run. Our table of 14 really enjoyed themselves. Looking forward to next year's tricky tray! Kudos to all those who worked so hard to pull this together.

I know the tricky trayer who called OLMV in August, September, October and November and called when tickets were not even printed yet. How could the tricky trayer not get tickets when they were printed?

This tricky trayer is a very decent person with money to spend and would be willing to donate money to OLMV had a chance been given to attend the auction. However, whomever who was in charge took it upon themselves to omit this person for whatever the reason was.

The tricky trayer wanted a table of 10 and the table of 10 people are folks who just enjoy tricky trays and the secret key is..they are folks with real money who were looking for a new investment.

It appears as though some of the comments here attacking this person are by folks who are totally clueless and are happy they were able to attend. Hey, anywhoo... these folks are rightfully offended and called in well enough time to secure tickets before OLMV list of favorites got tickets instead.

The decent thing to do was to honor the requestor that was calling for 4 solid months continually. How do you justify not being able to accomodate this person?

I am not liberty to state the person's name for privacy issues, but OLMV school would have totally benefitted by doing the right thing and not getting caught up in the hype.

Hey, their loss. These people have crossed OLMV off their donation list and frankly could care less whether the school or tricky trayers care or not.

Mr. Tricky Tray:

Thanks for setting the record straight! As the organizer for OLMV I've had to endure many personal attacks from this blog; however, I take the good with the bad and we use the feedback to help us plan the next event. I have no problem with people commenting on our event, as it helps me plan how to handle certain aspects for next year's event, like the ticketing situation which obviously angered many of your regulars. While I understand that the blog invites "freedom of speech" and I thoroughly welcome the debate and constructive criticisms, it would be nice to see a curb on the personal attacks. I know we cannot please all of the people all of the time.

Thanks to you and your folks for your support. And to those who for some unknown reason still feel the need to trash & bash me and this event, May God Bless you and your family and I hope that you can find some other worthy school to shower your money upon as I am sure they will be just as happy as OLMV to take your money.

And, I'm not embarrassed to sign my name; quite frankly, I'm very proud of the outcome of this event and how much funds it raised for our school children.

I have a GREAT idea for OLMV. Since you made such a ton of money because so many people came and supported your school, why dont you donate a tiny portion of it to Mr. Tricky Tray to keep his website up and running. After all, this man works like a dog without pay keeping this site up and running so you can advertise (free of charge) not just your first year but this year also. And let us not forget, if not for the free advertising you got here you probably would not have had the turnout you got. If you werent voted best TT on this website your second year would not have had the same outcome. Put your money where your mouth is OLMV and support the website that got you where you are!

Susan from OLMV will probably put Mr. Tricky Tray on her waiting list too.

She can take her auction and stick it up here tricky tray butt!

I thought no one from this site would go to OLMV "if they were given free tickets, driven in a limo and given spending money." So why the heck would they PAY for advertising here to people who have already said they won't go next year? DUH!!!! Are you people for real? Do you have brains? Plus, based upon prior posts, you all "claimed" to not be able to get tickets there this year, so you had NOTHING to do with packing their house, despite the fact that they were named Best of 2006.

The "advertising" on this site did nothing for them except generate some cry-baby comments from whiny losers who couldn't get a ticket and who obviously have nothing else better to do with their lives every Friday, Saturday and Sunday than to go to tricky trays and then sit in front of their computers and co-miserate with others and trashing these events. Boo hoo hoo. Get a life people. And God Bless the First Amendment!!!!

Not only that, but schools and organizations don't really PAY for advertising; they usually advertise for FREE in local papers, community news, local businesses, etc. Or, they get their advertising donated. Shows how much you REALLY KNOW about these things... (which apparently is absolutely NOTHING!)

Hey OLMV, if I were you guys, I would just stay away from this site next year. I'm sure many other organizations who have been "panned" in the past by a few of these people probably feel the same way.

Mr. Tricky Tray has a nice thing going here but I guess you just cannot police the people who post.

And it's pretty obvious that it's only one or two people who are continually posting the negative posts (over and over and over and over). Why not sign your name like the lady from OLMV did? Are you ashamed of your comments? Pretty easy to hide behind anonimity isn't it??? Own up to your comments.
Regards,
Cindy A.

I dont believe my post about donating a portion of the proceeds to Mr. Tricky Tary's website is anything to be ashamed of. I dont think it is a negative comment either. Asking OLMV to donate because they appreciate the efforts of this website is not shameful. Aside from the manpower hours it takes to get the information up on the website and to verify eveything it does cost Mr. Tricky Tray money to run this place. Did you assume it was free? And I beg to differ with your comment that this website did nothing for OLMV. By listing it as best TT of the year it encouraged people who wouldnt normally go to it to buy tickets and encouraged people to drive a distance they normally wouldnt to want to attend. OLMV and every other organization who hold a tricky tray has no problem asking for donations to run their event. Now when I suggest they donate back you find that a negative suggestion. Your suggestion that organizations stay away from this website indicates you think your opinion is the only opinion that is "right". On the contrary, there are no wrong opinions, thats why they are called opinions. Everyone has a chance to speak and whether you agree with it or not is your perogative. My post simply suggests that if OLMV appreciate this website and Mr. Tricky Tray's efforts they can show their appreciation by contributing to the maintenance and upkeep of the site so everyone can continue to enjoy it. Any other interpretation of my comment is bizarre.

Hey Priscilla. I don't think anyone said that your comment was negative. The personal attack was, "She can take her auction and stick it up here tricky tray butt!" That, I have an objection to because it is grossly out of line. Sadly, some people do not have their priorities in order.

Again, OLMV sold out last year before receiving the award, so the website had nothing to do with their success. It increased demand this year, yes, but clearly, they have no problem selling tickets. As a Catholic school, they probably do not miss the revenue from vindictive people like the personal attacker who just won't stop.

Keep the discussion to TT's and keep the personal stuff to yourselves.

Have a nice day!

Mr. Tricky Tray,
I'm in favor of your blocking the inappropriate blogs. It's a terrible negative energy to those of us who just enjoy hearing the inside scoop about TTs. As a business consideration, it's not inconceivable that you're loosing business because of those few who continue to perpetuate their tirades on this blog. Who wants to read this vitrole over and over? You and this site are having your reputations sullied. That is so unfair!
I personally am checking the blog far less frequently these days, as I find the negative tone of what's being written uninformative and tiring. It's as though we are being taken advantage of...kind of like, a captive audience. I feel that's inappropriate. I'm also not in favor of people thinking that if they choose to identify themselves with their names they can blast others...I think they missed the point you were trying to make above. Please nip this in the bud.

Here, Here!! Let's get back to business, like, where is everyone going this weekend? A few of my friends and I are headed to Manville's TT. They don't have an ad up here but I've been there the past few years and it is a nice night out. Last year they had about 400 people and probably close to 300 prizes. For the price we paid for tickets the prizes were comparable. They had FREE food last year (not sure about this year though)and I remember them having a ton of baked goods. Although I came home without a prize (just not lucky at these things but I keep going back to support many of these organizations!!!) my girlfriends and I had fun. Manville is on Friday 11/16. What else looks good for the weekend???

I think OLMV should stay off this site period. They don't have tickets available apparently and I was told they only sell to select people. A lot of aggravation could have been avoided had they just kept it in their town.

And to the woman who said some of the proceeds should be donated...she was right. Hey, no one from this site where OLMV advertised seemed to get tickets, so why not donate some of the proceeds?

In Mr. Tricky Trays original invite to post on the page said that you could pretty much post and have free speech, perhaps he's changing his tune.

I just think that if you advertise here, stand by you advertisement then you can alleviate negative comments across the board.
Mr. Tricky Tray said…

Give it a rest and let's get back to the REAL stuff.

If Mr. TT wants to charge for advertising on this site you should let HIM make that decision and not everyone else who has an opinion. He could always charge a nominial "registration" fee to advertise your event. If you don't want to pay the fee, you don't advertise here. Just a suggestion...

Now, AGAIN, lets stop all the bashing and get back to the things everyone really wants to talk about... what's coming up and who's going where?
