You know we aren't picking on tricky trays just exercising our rights. We spend alot of money and it should be a nice night out. Maybe you have $50.00 you want a few tickets in front of you? Charging that type of money is crazy> If you don't have alot of prizes then just sell 150 tickets and leave it at that. Don't sell 300 tickets and only 150 prizes. You should have at least one prize per person attending.

I also went to the Triangle School tricky tray in Manville. Not worth the trip. $10 a sheet for the regular table. There was a basket with about 10 Dollar store items. One with a $10 candy store on line. Some $25 dollar gift cards. Not all baskets were equal. They should have been combined to equal around the "UNDER $74 VALUE" as stated. They certainly were under --way way under $74. Too expensive and what was with the 28 or so Teacher lunches on that table. They certainly stretched out their prizes.
WILL NEVER GO TO THIS ONE AGAIN. Not worth the trip into the next county.

Glad I didn't go to either Triangle School or JFK School! I went to Alpine School in Sparta. Really nice prizes! The prices of the tickets matched the prizes ($5 a sheet for prizes starting at $50), no admission charge. That's my kind of tricky tray!

Hey just one thing to mention. When you set up a Tricky Tray and you know you are sold out let people know. You have them post your tricky tray on this site the least you can do is write and let them know you sold out. I always call now and check I went to too many and found out the hard way. REALLY PEOPLE INFORM US FIRST!

To the post a few posts back about possibly running out of tickets...I have mixed feelings. I absoultely cant stand it when there are numbers that are way off..meaning all start with 587 and then all of a sudden you have some that are 903. Like the other person said, maybe get another roll of the same color and keep it if you do run out. Congratulations though, you must have sold alot of tickets to have run out of the roll!
Another "pet peeve" of mine is an addendum to a program. Obviously you received a donation after the program was printed..and I am sure there was a deadline. Some people wait specifially until after the deadline so they have thier own private sheet of paper that says ...Late addition #109 Girls Basket doinated by Shelly Kelly! Drives me crazy! We stuck to our deadline and if anyone gave after they were told they missed the deadline to get in the program, but if they still wanted to give they could. Youd be surprised how many didnt want to give the donation any more.

According to the NJ Legalized Games of Chance Control Commission, children under 18 ARE PERMITTED to attend and participate in Tricky Trays. According to NJ Reg. 5:8-59 end of Section b, “a person under the age of 18 years shall be permitted to play an on-premises draw raffle, including a Penny auction, when any prize offered and awarded consists of merchandise only." A tricky tray is “on-premise draw raffle.” “Merchandise only” means a person under 18 can put tickets in for and win merchandise only baskets. As pointed out by another blogger, gift cards/certificates are considered to be mechandise. However, a person under 18 CAN NOT put tickets in for and win the following: a cash prize, lottery tree, alcohol prize or 50/50 raffle. This is not my interpretation. This is information I received from the helpful folks at the NJ Legalized Gaming Commission on 973-273-8000 or www.state.nj.us/lps/ca/lgccc.htm - look under Bingo and Raffles Statutes and Regulations. I don’t understand all the misinformation out there. We have a Commission dedicated to gaming and they are more than willing to answer any questions. Personally, I think organizations benefit when children are present. They encourage their parents to purchase more tickets.

In the above post it said "a person under 18 CAN NOT put tickets in for and win the following: a cash prize, lottery tree, alcohol prize or 50/50 raffle." I called Monday down to Trenton and was told we could not even raffle off the following items "FIREARMS, TOBACCO, LIVESTOCK, CASH, LOTTERY TICKETS" So, this is why people are so confused.
Anonymous said…
I also thought that you could not have lottery tickets at a tricky tray and yet I see them all the time. I am surprised people are not afraid of losing their gaming license.

You can have lottery tickets at a Tricky Tray. However, no one UNDER 18 can put in for or win the tickets. The 2/13/07 post addresses the rules for people under 18.

I also thought you couldn't have Lottery Tickets at a Tricky Tray, but I see them at every one I attend. I called the Gaming Commission in Trenton and was told persons under 18 cannot put in for cash prizes, lottery tickets and 50/50's. I never actually got an accurate answer as to whether lottery tickets were allowed. However, the man also said that it is ADVISABLE not to allow person's under 18 at TT's where cash is a prize because it is too hard to monitor who is putting in tickets for what prizes. Unless you want to proof every person who looks under 18 before selling them tickets, or have prizes at a table labeled "over 18 only", it's too much to worry about when you're trying to run the event. The only solution is to either not allow persons under 18 to attend at all, or decline any prize offer of Lottery Tickets, Cash, and 50/50's. Also...one last comment, I hate events where they use 2 different colored tickets, too. I'd rather have non-consecutive numbers than different colors.

Just a question to all you tricky trayers out there.....have you ever had a problem where people sneaked in with their own tickets? I haven't had it happen yet at any one I've attended, but a friend said that she was at one where someone had brought their own tickets knowing that the first level of prizes is usually white and the numbers are almost always non-consecutive. She was busted when one of the numbers she had was the same as someone else's and she had sheets of blue, yellow and green in her purse. Pretty weird, huh?

Any results for best tricky tray 2006 yet?

I’ve attended many tricky trays that had an “adults only” table which included alcohol, cash prizes, lottery trees, etc. It didn’t seem to be a problem at all.

If anyone would like to go to a good "old fashioned" Tricky Tray - no dinner - free admission & refreshments - all tickets sold at the door - then come to our Hampton Township PTA Tricky Tray on March 3rd doors open at 6:30pm. I have posted the directions on the website, but if you need additional directions just give me a call. We will have close or over 300 trays ranging from $35.00 - $100.00 for regular trays with tickets at $4.00 for a sheet of 26 and $35.00 for 10 sheets! There will be Specials from $100 - $199 (American Girl Doll, Pamper Yourself, Imagine That Birthday Party, Camp Iliff Birthday Party, Bouncerama and much more) Super Specials $200 plus (Mulch including delivery, Pavers, Landscaping Specials, Walt Disney Tickets, and much more). We still have a lot coming in and we are working hard on making this a wonderful tricky tray. This is the first time a lot of us have planned a tricky tray so this website is a godsend! Any suggestions please let me know! Thanks and I hope to see a lot of you there on the 3rd!

The February 14, 2007 3:34 PM post, mentions a tricky tray with FIREARMS, TOBACCO and LIVESTOCK. What tricky tray is that? I don’t think I want to attend that one.

To the poster from 2/19 at 7:56 pm:
Are you kidding? Next time read the entire post - it says you CAN NOT offer those items at a tricky tray. Duh!

For all of you attending our TT this Saturday ( Penn Ave School 27 - Over the Rainbow)...Email me if you would like a copy of the program emailed to you. I know how much nicer it is to know all of the prizes ahead of time so you can "mark off" your must haves. Thanks!

Tickets for the May 31 Bergen County Players Tricky Tray are selling, so you'd better snap 'em up fast. Just $25 for a 4-course dinner & a sheet of first-level tickets. Tons of amazing prizes, and lots you'd never see at any other tricky tray.

I think the person supposedly calling Trenton about "FIREARMS, TOBACCO, LIVESTOCK" for tricky tray baskets was an attempt a humor. At least, I hope it was.

Update on Our Lady of Peace Tricky Tray on March 30th - The gift card to Ticketmaster is now a $250 gift card for Telecharge which is good for Broadway and off-Broadway shows as well as restaurants such as Sardis and Tavern on the Green. We have a complimentary round of golf for four at Shackamaxon Golf & Country Club which includes greens fees, driving range, carts, refreshments at the Halfway House and lunch at the Grill Room. I also left out our Grand Prize which is a $1200 Visa Gift card (tickets are $5 or 5/$20). More baskets are pouring in daily. We are half way to being sold out. Call for tickets, you do not want to miss this event!

We went to the Pennsylvania Avenue School "over the rainbow TT" yesterday. One word for it..F A B U L O U S!! This is probably going to be our favorite for the year. They had very lovely prizes, about 250 of them and all nice. It was so well organized we thought they were professionals. The organizers were all professionally?? dressed as characters from Wizard of Oz. Everyone running it was pleasant. This was EXTREMELY WELL ORGANIZED and very relaxing. There was no confusion whatsoever, it ran very smoothly. It was just big enough to be great but not big enough to be noisy and cramped and drive us insane. We were there for about 5 hours and it seemed like minutes. We had a really really good time and cannot wait to go back next year. THIS WAS THE BEST TRICKY TRAY WE HAVE BEEN TO IN A VERY LONG TIME. Thanks to all who organized!!

I attended the Hillside Avenue School Tricky Tray in Cranford last night. It was well organized, but they ran out of entry level tickets. That was really ok because those prizes were only worth $10 at most. Next time I would suggest that they group smaller items together and have the entry level prizes be worth at least $25.

Hi Priscilla, I am "Scarecrow" from Over The Rainbow TT and I want to thank you for your post! We all worked long and hard for our guests to enjoy our event and we are VERY, VERY pleased to hear that you enjoyed your trip down our yellow brick road!!! Thank you very much!!!

We also went to the Pennsylvania Avenue School "Over the Rainbow" TT and completely concur that it was excellent. The theme was executed like a Broadway production, it was creative and imaginative from the color-coding to the characters selling tickets. The attention to detail was outstanding. The baskets were beautiful and plentiful. The caller was funny, clear and loud enough for everyone to hear. The place was great, the food was great and everyone had a great time. There were a lot of volunteers so help was plentiful and TrickyTrayCherry emailing everyone who asked the program in advance was the supreme act of outstanding customer service. All organizers and volunteers of this event should be patting themselves on the back. We will absolutely be coming back next year!

Hi Everyone! This is "Dorothy!" Thank you for your kind words. I was extremely happy and proud of our Over the Rainbow Tricky Tray. As you all know, it takes so much time and so many volunteers to plan and execute a tricky tray, of any size, and I am thankful to everyone from my Aunt Em to Glinda, the Scarecrow, Lion and Tinman, the Wicked Witch, Th Twister and all of the munchkin runners. Of course, there were a few small gliches, but we tried our best to accommodate everyone and fix what went wrong (and to those of you who didnt even notice - thank you!) I met most of the tricky tray dot com ers, and I think you won some very nice prizes! Thank you for supporting our school - hope to see you next time! There's no place like home!
