re nasty postings on past events: Someone, maybe a couple posters can't seem to get beyond one event. Get a grip, recognize that you are having serious issues and maybe get some professional help. You've repeatedly stated your opinion and now you are making a joke out of yourself/selves... Let it go and move to the light of current events. ;~)

thank you to previous poster who mentioned the Manville event. What specifics can you share? When where who's the sponsor ticket cost et cetra.

I went to the Sussex VoTech Tricky Tray back in the spring and it was really good. I remember pointing out bent tickets to them last time. I hope they remember to post signs this time! By the way, they have great theater seating and lots of room to put your prizes.

I went to the NJ Museum of Agriculture Tricky Tray last year. It was very affordable. That being said, the first level and a lot of the second level prizes, in my opinion, were not very good. However, they had some nice things at the higher levels. It looks like this year they may have rearranged the prizes - i think they had another level last year. The people were very nice and it was well organized. One more note - they stopped selling food/drinks when the calling started. I'm not going this year due to other commitments and overall I prefer a slightly higher end tricky tray.

Anyone heard if Centenary College is holding their TT again this year? It's a small one, but they allow and encourage children. My two had a blast last year and it's the only time I go Tricky Traying with them.

Here's the info I have on Manville: Annual “Reach for the Stars” basket auction, sponsored by the Manville Education Foundation, will be Nov. 16 at the VFW post, Washington Avenue, Manville. Tickets are $10. Doors open at 6 p.m. Door prizes, refreshments and 50/50. No tickets sold at the door. No one under 18 admitted. To purchase tickets, call 526-5568 or 575-9610. I cannot remember if I got a free sheet of tickets last year at the door. It was a fun night. Hope you enjoy!!!

thanks for the details on Manville and also Sussex Vo-Tech. Tickets for Sussex Vo-Tech are $5 each or 3/$10 for regular trays.

Centenary College TT is in the spring in support of their softball team.

Someone mentioned that Newton HS Proj Graduation tt is usually held about now. Does anyone know a date for that one?

Has anyone been to St. Francis Metuchen? I think they are in the Spring and I think they hold it at the Raritan Center in Edison?? I've heard it was good, but that's from people directly involved. How many people do they pack in and what's the amount of prizes? Do you think it's worth it?

as far as the St. Francis in Metuchen, I think it's usually in March. I have gone 2 years in a row and it has it's ups and downs. The ups are that there are only 2 level of prizes, normal and grand. The normal prizes values were over $100 and varied..overnight trips, electronics, etc. The grand was (i think) a trip to Ireland, a flat screen and things of that like. The downs...there were over 500 people and maybe 200 prizes. I thought the tickets were expensive and the food mediocre. The normal prizes were set up on tables along the walls of the dining area, so it was only 1 line to put tickets in and it was a LONG LONG line. My biggest complaint was the amount of people, just too many. I haven't decided if I will go again this year. I like that it's for kids, and like I said, the prizes were nice...it's just an expensive night out with a small chance to win. Hope that helps!

FYI ... I'm from N.Y. - not from the school or the town - and I waited patiently on the waiting list for OLMV and was rewarded with tickets. I'm not sure what all the hoopla was about.

thanks for info on Metuchen

Newton does have tt this Fri night. Its class of 2010 and not a Project Grad one if that makes any difference.

Thanks for the insight on Metuchen as well. That does sound like a lot of people and I'm not too fond of waiting in long lines. I know a lot of places will wait to start calling the tickets until the line goes down but I wouldn't wat to have to "rush" through the prizes. I like to take my time (within reason of course) to at least see what I'm bidding for. They do sound like they have a lot of nice prizes though. Guess I'll wait until March and see what happens. Thanks again!!!

I'd like to hear comments from those of you who attended the tricky tray at St. Augustine's in Kendall Park last night. There were over 600 people attending and we got out at 12:15 this morning. Prizes were good but not "great". Lots of them though - about 500. The organizers did a very good job with the event. However, I do not enjoy these huge events where the number of attendees exceeds the space available for viewing prizes. Very uncomfortable and annoying being shoved around while trying to drop tickets in and watch the clock at the same time. Being so rushed isn't a good start to the evening. The 50/50 was over $2100 to the winner. Our party of 4 did go home with 4 wins among us. Sometimes winning, though, isn't the most important thing.

I went to St. Augustine's in Kendall Park last night as well. Or should I say this morning because it was after midnight before we even got out of there. I think the prizes were nice but it was run poorly. There was no need to have that many people and make people sit upstairs like that. They were so greedy and saying how to spend more, spend more, spend more. I thought at one point they were going to just come take it out of our pockets. The layout of prizes made no sence what so ever. The caller took way to long to call numbers. Next time try having two tricky trays one in fall and one in spring. What you did to us all was just wrong. My last part about this one is why would you have to make a donation to get a $5 dollar store gift card as your table gift? Are you that cheap you can't just give every table a table prize we did all pay $10 bucks to get in. The price levels were way too much. I really hope next year you rethink this one out.

I went to the Museum of Agriculture
today. I must say ladies your amount of gifts and quality seemed to go down a bit from last year. Yes the tickets were affordable and it does move in a good fashion. You don't take breaks and you don't keep selling tickets after you call the first ticket. I really wish more places ran it as smooth as you do. Maybe next year you can get some more prizes. If you upped your sheets by a dollar or so to cover that cost I don't think people will mind. I will be back next year.

I went to the best Tricky Tray last night. The Ogdensburg PTO! They had well over 300 prizes, GREAT prizes. Tons of gift certificates. They started calling at 8:00pm, I was in my car going home by 9:52pm. These ladies knew what they were doing. There was no chatting, the caller just called the numbers, one after the next. EXCELLENT JOB!

I went to the TT at museum of Agriculture. Nice job but oh boy the seats were uncomfortable. No tables made it hard to hold tickets. Your web site should say seating only no tables. I was buy the young lady who bought quite a few tickets for the larger prizes. It was so hard for her to look at her tickets. You called so slow in the begining and then speed up at the larger prizes why? more people buy tickets for larger prizes. The girl had the winning ticket for american girl doll and was struggling to look for it. You started to call the number by 2 digits and she yelled here I have it. Mind you you didn't call the whole number or then it would of been null and void. Please remember that next year. No tables the larger prizes give a little xtra time. I had mine on cardboard for blue and green? But the yellow was too many so we held them in our hands. good job though

This is getting hard to read-how about closing this blog and starting the new one?

A question on the Agriculture TT-I wnt a couple years ago and a lot of low end prizes seemed to be dug out of attics and even used-has this changed? I did enjoy it when I went to some extent-but the quality of prizes kept me from coming back this year-the lack of tables was uncomfortable-but, good variety of food and great ticketg prices

I did go to another TT that had a 'yard sale' table of used items which is a great idea-you can still have used items, but clearly id them as used by keeping them in a sepaprate section

I went to the St Augustine one in Kendall Park too. Far too many people. 400 people would have been more than enough. The prices were expensive for the value. Especially the first level. $10 a sheet for a $15 gift card. Then there was a $50 gift card. Why now combine some small items to equal the same value. The week before I went to the So. River one and I paid 2 sheets for $5. Valued between $50 to $75. The best value was the Disney Hopper and Jon Bonjovi tickets on the highest end.

I also went to TT at the mesuem of agriculture and I was the person with all the tickets. I gave for a donation and bought alot of higher end tickets. lack of tables made it hard to spread tickets out. When the american girl doll got called the caller seemed to rush through calling the number "maybe she wanted to win it? I don't know but I did scream I have it before she even called the 3rd number on a 7 or eight didit ticket. Then the lady who delived it looked annoyed and just threw the doll at me. Well I donated alot of money you should consider that>>> And yes next time inform people you have chairs only??

I went to the Ogdensburg PTO tt and the only thing I had a problem with was the ticket prices - I think they were a little on the high side for some of the prizes that were there. On a positive note, they did a great job on calling the #'s, and were very organized, they had over 300 baskets and called everything in about 2 hrs - well done.

The New Jersey Museum of Agriculture would like to thank all our participants and contributors that helped make our 4th annual Tricky Tray a successful, much needed fund raiser.
We apologize that there are no tables available and to those of you uncomfortable in the chairs provided. If tables were put up we could only accomodate approximtely 100 people.
We welcome and appreciate suggestions and constructive criticisms to help us improve our event for our participants and ultimately the Musuem.
However - regarding the woman with the American Girl doll and Ipod - the number for the doll was called FOUR times - I DID NOT want to pick another number - about 50 people were calling to pull another number - if you needed more time to look at your tickets - why did you not speak up? Your posting on this blog that "maybe she wanted the doll for herself" - is an outrageous personal insult and an attack on my character. The NJMA staff and volunteers spend much time and effort to insure our Tricky Tray is run efficiently, professionally and most of all HONESTLY.

Thanks again to all our contributors. Hope to see you next November.

Not criticism - I wasn't attending. But the ones I did attend had prize claiming issues also. organizers could/should consider posting spotters around the room who can verify the numbers and direct the runner to the right winner. The larger the crowd, the more the caller can use help in finding winners trying to claim each tray.
the last few events were large and had blindspots where the caller could not see. Instead of using a spotter back there, other tables would point and relay that there was a winner in the back.

To all of the bloggers,

Have a very wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. It's been a great advantage to have all of your input as to the quality of the various Tricky Trays and what's gone on at the ones we can't get to.

With the next few days off, it'll give our winning karma a chance to recharge.

Happy holidays!
